The Twisted Teapot

To find an establishment of this quality in central Florida was a delightful surprise. I truly did not expect to find delicious tea served exactly as it would have been in the best of the best in the UK, nor was I ready for extraordinarily tasty homemade quiche accompanied by exceptionally flavoursome salads which all looked like a picture on the plate. To continue my amazement there was a very pretty plate of five small scrumtuous cakes. Wow. Here there's a kitchen that truly understands flavour, presentation and service. The interior is spotlessly clean and quite quirky which is no bad thing, it simply enhances the charm and experience of just being here and tasting gorgeous food. The service matches the food... Exceptionally good.Very highly recommended.

Passive aggresive waitress. I asked for soft bacon and very firmly told "no, all the bacon is cooked already". What type of bacon are they serving then? That coupled with all the racist decor.... no thank you. There are a lot of good breakfast locations in Winter Haven and this isn't one of them.

Brock's Smoke Hut

Top 5 Best Ribs in America no doubt. And I've had plenty. Having eaten Bar B Que from Kansas city to South Carolina and many many places in between I can honestly tell you that the ribs at Brock's are in my top 5 nationwide. They are smoked until they literally melt in your mouth! (makes my mouth water thinking about it) They have a smokey flavor that is just perfect! The smoked chicken is fantastic! Juicy and tender and DELICIOUS! The sides are worthy with the exception of the slaw and the potato salad, they are not made there and it shows (shame on any Q joint that doesn't make their own potato salad and slaw, shame shame) The white beans are very good and the cornbread is tasty as well. Go and eat at Brock's (outdoor seating only) or grab some for your next tailgate. You will be pleased that you did.

15 of us decided to go back to Dundee BBQ Company again after our first visit two weeks ago. With fifteen people all satisfied with their meal and not one complaint is saying something about Dundee BBQ. I got the pulled pork dinner along with fries and BBQ beans. The pork contained no fat or gristle and with their sweet BBQ sause was great. Ribs both spare and baby back were cooked just right. Their hamburgers are excellent. This is a locals diner with a friendly homey atmosphere. It is not a fancy restaurant and the staff is always happy to see you. We have added Dundee BBQ Co. to our favorites list.

Stopped for breakfast and first impression was good. Quaint, eclectic decor, server appeared immediately to take our order. Average wait time, but disappointing looking plates. I asked for over-hard fried eggs with broken yolks and ham. The eggs were very unattractive and overdone. The ham slice was wafer thin and dried out. The potatoes were incredibly greasy. My husband ordered the Dr. Adkins breakfast with lots of meat and reported that it was just okay. Server was apologetic and wished she could do something, but nothing was forthcoming. Overall, disappointing and we won't go back.

What a dump. Can’t believe this place gets the reviews it does, it shows the lack of good options in and around Winter Haven. Boring menu, horrible cigarette smell, slow service, and a bar full of the local drunks most of the time. Jessica, ScottYou must have us confused with some other establishment. We have been non smoking for over two decade and recently got new floors and new paint so no smoke smell here. Also we have a very small bar (4 seats) and honestly no real “bar crowd” so non of the locals you speak of hang out here. Our menu and service are consistently well received thus the outstanding reviews.

We were really looking forward to having a hot pastrami sandwich, but when we walked in and went to order, we were told the steamers were turned off and we could only have our sandwich cold. They were getting ready to close. Would you not turn them off after you closed. Okay the sandwich was big, 1/2 lb meat, and that was it, no slice of dill or a small container of cole slaw. I worked in a restaurant and dill pickles and cole slaw do not cut into your profit margin, this was just plain cheap. As far as I'm concerned it was a wasted 43 mile trip.

K and I decided to try Ovations, it was our first time and we went on a Wednesday night. Place was packed and it would have been at least a twenty minute wait until a couple got up from the bar and we took their seats. Note to self: make reservations! The bar crowd was exceptionally friendly and we met several new friends. Patrick the bartender was exceptional making sure our drinks were perfect and consulting on menu choices. I chose the Lamb shank with a side of broccoli and wild rice but changes it to garlic mashed potatoes. K had the combo ribs chicken plate with coleslaw and the garlic mashed potatoes like me. She said it was the best coleslaw “she didn’t make herself”, and the chicken and ribs were delicious. My dish arrived with the rice instead of the garlic mashed potatoes. Patrick went back and got me a dish of gmp’s. The lamb fell off the bone and the sides were fantastic. Since we live about ten minutes from Ovations I think we found our new “go to” restaurant. Make reservations if you want to be sure to get a table but the bar is a great place to enjoy a meal and the ambiance! Don’t miss this place! Thanks for coming! We’re so happy that you found us and that everything was great. We would love to be tour go to place in the area. Visit our website ovationbistro.com to put your name in for a table!-Team Ovation

Dundee Diner

Reviewed By Isthmuse

This is a favorite diner of mine. There is generally very good diner food and service. Mostly hits (food and service) but the occasional misses. There is always room for improvement. While servers are warm cheerful, the host/hostess/cashier folks (the owners?) are robotic. The typical customer interaction when you walk in is "how many?". When you pay, the programmed question is "how was everything?" These interactions are cold and impersonal with no eye contact. It would be wonderful hear a sincere "Welcome! Nice to see you again. May I seat you?" and "Thanks for visiting us again. Hope to see you again soon! We appreciate your loyalty." Cost of these small pleasantries = $0.
