Where to eat American food in Cheyenne: The Best Restaurants and Bars

January 27, 2020 Renato Branum

Reviews on American food in Cheyenne, Wyoming, United States. While Cheyenne is the capital of Wyoming, it’s also considered America's rodeo and railroad capital. But there’s more to this Magic City of the Plains, with high tech taking advantage of using the mix of weather, landscape and populace for their latest innovations. Cheyenne is home to museums, historic hotels and mansions, a collection of heritage steam engines, western-themed attractions and shopping, resorts and ranches, a thriving arts community and a wide array of outdoor adventures.

Good enough that we had our only 2 b'fasts in Cheyenne here...she enjoyed her 'Strawberry Banana Waffle so much she repeated that choice; I had a 'Classic B'fast' one morning, their 'Athena Scramble' the next...both colorful & tasty. A fun, creative menu & friendly staff. Recommended. Thanks for your review. We hope to see you again soon for breakfast, brunch or lunch!

Poor Richard's

Family run and operated restaurant for 40 years

The biggest plus of Poor Richard's is the staff who's very welcoming. We arrived late, nearish closing time on Wednesday, and were a bit indecisive when picking food off the menu at first! Our waitress (I think Nina) was very nice, patient, and understanding, she talked us through options and her own favourites. She was also very helpful when I was navigating the vegan and gluten free options available to me. Sadly the black bean and corn soup was made with chicken stock so it was a no-go for me. I ended up picking to eat from the salad bar and it was nice, with plenty of fresh veggies to choose from. Others had a rib eye steak and buffalo burger. The steak was particularly good which again was good advice from our waitress. Thank you for a lovely dinner!

The Bunkhouse Bar and Grill

Because of the great reviews, I made sure we included this in our itinerary while on our trip West. I wanted an authentic old-western-style experience in both atmostphere and food. The good reviews were a lot of bunk! The outdoors was messy, not kept-up looking, not inviting--and the Elvis statue (what??) was wierd. The inside was large, chock full of dusty memorabilia and quite dark. There were only two other customers there at 12:45pm...it was empty. Saw only two employees...our waitress was OK but the bartender was curt. The waitress suggested that everything on the menu was GREAT...but my hamburger was dry and tasteless, and my sister's chicken salad was large but uninteresting. Let down! My sister and I agreed driving the extra 30 minutes from the main drag, 25, was not at all worth it. Try anything else. (One good thing was provided by Mother Nature: the clouds outside were beautiul.)

Rib & Chop House

My wife and I loved this restaurant. The service was great, and the food was delicious and prepared perfectly. The cedar plank salmon was the best I've had, and I have eaten it at numerous restaurants. I was a little wary ordering the carrot souffle, having never had it before, but it was excellent. Since we don't have a Rib & Chop House anywhere near Ohio, I will have to look up recipes to try and duplicate those wonderful carrots! My wife tried the crab-crusted chicken and raved about it the rest of the afternoon. We were both on a cross-country drive for our 50th anniversary and had eaten in probably sixty different restaurants. The meal we had at Cheyenne's Rib & Chop House was the best we had.

We were in town for a business meeting and were given a recommendation to try The Metropolitan. It was well worth our time. Everyone loved their food. Our server was top notch and provided excellent recommendations. We had no problem getting a table for 6 at lunch, but I think we were a little early because it did fill up. I saw a private room in the back which is always valuable for business meetings. I loved the decor, very relaxing. I can’t wait to go back. I highly recommend and will be a repeat customer again soon.
