Well this is my third review of the Rabit Patch. Time has proved itself and sometimes time makes it better and sometimes not. I will say I still love the establishment's service, cleanliness, nostalgic building and location. But...The prices have outgrown the food served. It has been about 2 months since our last visit and that time we were like "so so" and this time it was confirmation. Daughter had sliders with fries, wife had chicken salad with pecans and I had the rabid rabbit low carb... we got our food and first off I noticed the meat was so small... like tiny... and with NO BUN meat sauce in a lettuce wrap for 8.50... then I cut it up and it was raw. Checked daughter slider... it was too. So the waitress took them back and had them re cook new ones. So yes they made it right, I'm glad but the fact is my meal alone was 10.00 plus tax and 27.05 for all three. My wife and I only drink water so as a family and from a man that TRAVELS alot.... I get the privilege of going to local hot spots all over this continent and a 8.50 burger elsewhere is more than twice this size. This is not the review I want to give because I WANT to support this restaurant but since March this year we have seen a change in the quantity and quality. It is a great location, wonderful building friendly staff and as clean as you can get but a burger joint HAS TO STAND OUT ABOVE the crowd and it all boils down to the MEAT. I will hope they travel around the ArkLaTex and see what others are doing. I will always try it again because I support our local businesses. This is a picture of my second patty.... and our ticket.

Chicken Express

Chicken Express now has quite a few locations in Texas as well as in Arkansas, and a few other states. This location is in Atlanta, TX, on US 59, about 25 miles southwest of Texarkana, TX. It's on the northbound lanes of US 59, across from the Walmart Supercenter, and near McDonald's. I remember that the building once house a Wendy's Hamburger restaurant before it was converted to Chicken Express. You can dine in or use their drive thru window. Chicken Express has fried chicken meals as well as fried catfish. On this particular visit I dined in and had the two piece chicken meal. I had my choice of which pieces of chicken to have, and I chose a drumstick and a breast. Both were good, hot and fresh. I also had my choice of two side items to go with it. I chose the green beans and mashed potatoes with gravy. The green beans were hot and flavorful. The mashed potatoes were not as good as I had hoped, though. It didn't seem to have as much flavor as I would like, and they covered it with milk gravy, which is not my favorite gravy. Next time I'll ask if they have brown gravy. I also had a large drink. The total bill came to just over $8, which is a fair price for the amount of food that I received. All in all I was satisfied with my experience at Chicken Express, and would definitely eat here again the next time I'm traveling through Atlanta, Texas.

Catfish King

I have been coming to David Beard's Catfish King for at least 30 years. Starting with the original one in Ore City,Texas on Lake O' The Pines. I can't say enough about the excellent catfish dinners of Catfish King. Consistently great food and all the trimmings. Cole slaw is nice and sweet and fine, hushpuppies are excellent, green tomatoes are tasty, etc. If you haven't been to a Catfish King near you yet, please make an effort to go soon because you will love the food. The chain has a long following of loyal customers who return again and again. The few bad reviews you might see are likely from competitors or disgruntled people. Get on your smartphone and find the Catfish King nearest you. Enjoy!

4. Grandy's

This Grandy's location is one of the smallest I've ever encountered. It is located on one side of a gas station and convenience store. It's also a distance away from the main part of Atlanta. It's a about a third of a mile west of Black Bayou on US Highway 59. 90 per cent of Atlanta is on the east side of the bayou. My main problem with this Grandy's location was the young woman who took my order. I've never encountered anyone in all my years of visiting restaurants who was so cold, and uncaring to customers. Her whole attitude seemed to be "I hate my job, and just leave me alone and go away." When I entered the restaurant she was busy talking with someone who seemed to be a friend visiting her, and he seemed to be a priority with her, not me. When she finally stopped talking to the friend and turned to me, she kind of glared at me as if to say, "What do you want. Tell me quickly, and get lost." I studied the menu, and then looked to a section which advertised salads. I asked her about the salads and she snapped, "We don't serve those here." I was surprised, because if they don't serve salads, why were they being advertised by the counter? I didn't want to get into an argument with her, so I dropped the whole idea of having a salad. Instead I ordered one of the combo meals, which consisted of chicken nuggets, french fries and a soft drink. Once I gave my order and paid her she immediately turned her attention away from me, and went back to visiting with her friend. Another employee on duty at the time filled my order quickly and gave me my food. At least she had a pleasant disposition and smiled at me, unlike her co-worker. The dining room area was okay, with about 14 tables. It was compact, but neat. On one side of the wall were a lot of historic Coca Cola signs. On the other side of the wall were historic photos of Atlanta, TX. I didn't notice any photos of Ellen DeGeneres, though, who once attended Atlanta High School. That was a little disappointing. My chicken nuggets and french fries were okay, but nothing to write home about. All in all I would have given this Grandy's an average rating, but I had to say my experience was poor because of the totally negative attitude of the employee who served me. There's no excuse for that. Management needs to be aware of how she is treating their customers and she should either be reprimanded or fired. Just one more thing to mention. This Grandy's has a drive thru window.

This location is very rude and slow. They often tend to get your order wrong, even after they take forever to get the order to you. Above all of that, the staff is super rude. There is no hello when you walk in, just someone looking at you waiting for you to tell them what you would like to order. Drive thru is equally as bad. No hello at the window no total. Just open the window and look at you. If you order chicken expect it to be small pieces and old.
