What to do and see in Zakynthos, Ionian Islands: The Best Things to do

August 7, 2021 Sheron Bogner

The Ionian Islands are splendid, cinematic paradise. The waters are bluest blue, the sands are achingly silky and smooth. Everything looks heavily Photoshopped. But that's just Mother Nature, in all her unspoiled glory. Zakynthos is the largest of the Ionian Islands, and it's as fruitful as it is beautiful, boasting a bounty of crops like olives and grapes. Music is a huge part of the local culture—you can catch a concert or festival almost any night of the week, and you'll be captivated by the sights and sounds of Zakynthos performers.

Fabulous cove, excellent for swimming and snorkelling. Also scuba available here if you are Padi certificated. Whole place well laid out, terraces of beach beds leading down to steep steps in the rock to the swimming area. Restaurant serves excellent food with stunning views. Get there early as beds fill up fast, after 11 am you may well have a long wait. Cove is good for strong swimmers as water is quite deep. Many people use inflatable rings and lilo type beds in the sea. Snorkelling good and beautiful small fish to be observed. Well worth the drive down the rather precarious road!!

what a place to visit , right off the beaten track , took some time finding , but well worth the wait , you arrive down the mountain , and theres a couple of beach places to eat with free parking and free access to the loungers , so u could chill out to your hearts content , and even have drinks and food bought to your loungers , the only downside i had with this was the walk down to the sea was not that safe , it was rocky and you could easily slip , but apart from that , would certainly visit again , next time in zante

Tsilivi Waterpark

It opened at the beginning of May 2010 and is in Tsilivi. There are one or two other water parks on Zakynthos, but this one is brand new - and great!

Reviewed By daveo759 - Ulverston, United Kingdom

Great fun water park - can easily spend a full day here if you mix sun bathing with the water rides. We came here as it was free as part of our all inclusive package with the Planos Bay hotel next door. We have had a few fab days already and will definitely go again before the holiday is over. There are several height restrictions in place, 120cm-125cm-130cm and 140cm for the 2 x big rides. The double rings are mainly for 2 x kids, but we saw 2 x adults going on the largest ride using a double ring. My youngest (6 years old) was allowed to go on some of the bigger rides if I went down first to meet her at the bottom - which was nice of them to allow. My 8 year old and 10 year old are both over 140cm and have been on all of the rides. The biggest ride they had to share a double ring as they were too light for a single inflatable apparently. The entry, food and drink is free if you are on all inclusive but fairly expensive and not of the best quality if you are a paying customer. Most of the staff are really nice and helpful though and the kids area especially is cleaned and sanitized regularly through the day.

Dafni Beach

Reviewed By PaulThomasFarrell - London, United Kingdom

We landed in Zakinthos, it was a lovely day and we strolled across the road to collect our hire car. The off we went to Vasilikos around 45 mins form the airport. We'd hired a house called Villa Artemis for the week. It was beautiful, Dafni beach was just one of the locations we visited. Hard to get to by road but worth the hairpin bends! Jerry and Angela met us at the house on our arrival in fact Angela phoned us as we were driving and guided us in. They'd got us ice and snacks to get started! The house is beautiful. All mod cons to make your stay comfortable. There's even a ground floor bedroom if you don't fancy the stairs! What's important is to leave where you came from at the door and immerse yourselves in traditional surrounding with a modern flavour. The view from the master bedroom window opposite the bed is stunning. The terrace outside the master bedroom is ideal for sipping iced gin and watching the carpet of stars at night. There's a barbecue at the end of the garden that we didn't use but that would easily host six guests with room to roast a whole lamb! Nearby and I mean walking distance, is Gerakas Beach. Just go. It's beautiful. Also the other way while walking you'll first encounter 'Perfetto' restaurant. It was so perfect we didn't eat anywhere else and staggered home most night after delicious food and way too much red wine at prices that coming from London UK left us amazed. Terrific food and wine for less than 35 euros......for two! We'd hired a car and used it to get around the island which is small. The roads are a little on the bendy side and often quite narrow so go slow and stay sharp! Wont say much more but really, using Jerry and Angelas place as a base you are completely sorted! We''l be back for sure and hope you enjoy the place as much as we did. On a final note I notice quite a few reviews (not for this place) that pick at every single little issue and I feel it's easy to find something wrong if you're looking too hard. Try not to forget you're visiting another country often with different infastructure and lifestyles. Try to fit in and don't waste your time looking for fault. It'll never be perfect but then who is perfect? That's me done. Thank you for letting us into your home it's a memory we'll treasure forever.
