A beautiful basilica elevated in 1947 and pilgrimage sight dedicated to Maria Taferl. Services were first held here in 1660. The transept and pulpit to the high altar are absolutely beautiful. The switchback road getting to this town is only to be driven in good weather. The view is spectacular.

We had a business training session here, with catering. The rooms were really good, the service was mostly good, and the food was good. The view from the roof during the breaks was really cool! I think if they could get the organization for the meeting rooms better organized, this is a great location.

The Castle is cozy in comparison to other Castles in the region. This is still home to Princess Anita and her family, great granddaughter of Archduke Ferdinand. The museum is a good combination of telling history and family heirlooms. A very nice gift shop and a cafe are on site

Basilika Maria Taferl

Reviewed By Ram.dr. D - Tel Aviv, Israel

After Mariazell, Maria Taferl is the most important pilgrimage destination in all of Austria -
The church building was built from 1660 to 1710,when local shepherd Thomas Pachmann tried to chop down the oak on which it was placed, he gravely injured both his legs. After a prayer to the Virgin Mary, his almost fatal wounds stopped bleeding. The old oak was destroyed by fire in 1755, which also damaged the statue of the Pieta- There is a folk belief that the water from the well at Maria Taferl can help with eye complaints.- There is a wonderful view of Danube from the church yard
