Mr. Htike was a highly knowledgeable guide providing a well planned tour of Yangon's historical area. Starting with excellent coverage of The Secretariat, we then proceeded into the city, covering a local market, amazing historical buildings, the river ferry terminal, parks, a famous pagoda, churches, city hall and finishing at an incredible market. This included a stop at a small local cafe for coffee. Yangon was a most interesting trek with good pedestrian access throughout. The tour is a good way to introduce yourself to the city if you are a new visitor. I really enjoyed the ramble and Mr. Htike was a very professional informative guide.

We met our guide at Yangon Central Railway Station on platform 6. I think he should have met us in front of the station as we had other people helping us to get to Platform 6. He seemed to speak English well, but we soon discovered that he spoke so fast and mumbled which made it very hard to understand or even want to. We then took the train for 5 stops to see a local market. Our guide just walked in front of us with very little explanation. It was a very busy market but we had seen many markets like this around Myanmar. Then he took us to a local restaurant and we were served some traditional food. We were happy to experience some of the food but he didn’t explain whether it was safe too, so we asked and he mumbled a yes. While we were at the restaurant our guide spent his time on his mobile. After this we took a bus back to downtown Yangon. This was a awful experience. We weren’t sitting together and nothing was explained about the journey, it was filthy and people were pushing, spitting etc. Also it took an hour as we were mainly sitting in traffic. Would not recommend this tour at all. We are experienced traveller’s and have had many local guides, caught many local buses, and eaten at many local restaurants around Asia and the world and have enjoyed all of them. Unfortunately we did not enjoy this one !! We

This needs to be refunded right away. I called the phone number associated with our booking to confirm the Food Tour on 29th December. The gentleman had no clue about our booking saying it was on 31st December - not sure where they got that date from? He finally agreed to take us on this scheduled food tour at 4.30 PM instead of the original time of 4 PM that day. We reached at the spot at 4 PM. Kept waiting till 5 PM. I and my son called his phone number 7 times -- No answer. As we were about to leave, someone called my son from a different phone number and told him that he was told to wait at a different spot. We rushed there and met the food tour guide at 5.15 PM. He was surprised to see 4 people, was given a totally different name for the reservation and 2 people. He couldn't take 4 of us till he got OK from company which didn't come in another 20 minutes. We agreed mutually with food tour guide to call it off as it was a waste of time. Tour company called and said the he will return all money on 31st December and leave at our Hotel reception. No one ever returned our money. What is going on? We don't know of any other way to request an immediate refund besides submitting a review of our experience.

Even a well travelled person should venture up to Golden Rock. The obligatory ride in the back of the government lorries was exhilarating, uncomfortable - yes, seated on a narrow bench, but the journey up the windy, mountain single track road was impressive. The conductor was collecting the fares whilst balanced on the outside ledge of the vehicle! There is a new cable car near the summit for a different approach. On arrival at the sacred site, I had not anticipated having to walk through a village barefoot. Remember to put your shoes in your bag and keep them with you. Those who could not walk the distance paid to be carried on a litter! We bought food at the many stalls. There were lots of families at the summit, sitting peacefully picnicking, sleeping, chatting, just whiling away the day together. The rock is very imposing and obviously very sacred for the pilgrims. Only men may touch it and add more gold leaf to it. The surrounding scenery is very beautiful and dramatic. The Buddhist pilgrims are very respectful, reverend and seemed to enjoy their time at the temple immensely. The whole day was very memorable, I would certainly return. I would not stay at a hotel there as they seemed basic, overpriced and remote. We took the relaxing train to Bago, explored the great sites there, hired a driver for the day, went to Golden Rock and then lots of places on the way back.
