We were expertly guided by Brad around the wild and remote Coromandel coastline from Opito Bay to Matapaua Bay. As a virtual novice it really showed me the true colours of Sea Kayaking in New Zealand waters; being able to see and land in places others on foot or in a boat can't reach and to hear about the great history of the area. From the time of the Polynesians to the European settlers and the 2nd World War. On the homeward stretch it was play time. We were greeted by a pod of 40 or so dolphins arching out of the water in turn giving us an amazing display of their athleticism and fearlessness as we sat close by in awe. Thank you Brad and Keith for giving me and my husband a true New Zealand experience. Those unused to being on the sea in kayaks remember to tie on your hat and sunglasses so that you are well prepared.

Our afternoon trip departs the beach at 1:45pm and returns at 4:45pm. Plan to sail around the beautiful coastline on Fully Charged and visit local iconic locations, setting anchor for half an hour at Cathedral Cove. Either relax on the boat, or have a swim or snorkel in the marine reserve with the amazing fish life. Your trip includes a complementary chilled local beer or New Zealand wine along with some smoked local seafood. Every trip is different. Help to sail or sit back on our comfy beanbags, soak up the scenery and relax. Using wind power as opposed to engines and fuel allows us to take guests out with minimal impact on the environment.

In the Coromandel for a healing weekend following some stress back in Auckland, we found Boom's website and booked a half day cruise. I have long maintained that you don't really get to know a place until you've seen it from the water. So I try and book something like this every time we visit somewhere coastal. Out of the two of us, my wife is the non-sailor and sometimes feels like she gets dragged along on these excursions. WELL, not this time. Kirstine maintains this is the most fun activity she can recall in years, and we both would highly recommend it for sailors and non-sailors alike. It makes such a difference when you're dealing with people who love what they do, and this perfectly describes Mat and his crew Sam - our every need was looked after without them being "in our face." The boat is large, fast, and comfortable and we were given the option to help sail or be completely "hands off." We had a great time snorkelling at Cathedral Cove, and Mat was a veritable mine of information about the fascinating history of the surrounding bays. Can't thank these guys enough for a superb afternoon and we will absolutely be back. Highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting the Coromandel.
