Hokitika Craft Gallery

The Hokitika Craft Gallery is a unique space displaying a rich variety of both art and craftwork. It provides an excellent opportunity to buy exciting works made locally and showcases the talent, skill and originality of some of the very best creative people on the West Coast and the rest of Aotearoa / New Zealand.

On walking past I was immediately drawn to this gallery as a craftsperson myself. I am a Kiwi and rarely visit the plethora of tourist craft shops that abound in our country. The Hokitika Craft Gallery offers beautifully crafted objects by local artists. They have a range of items that I've not seen anywhere before. Bought some beautiful little gift cards for future use. Locally made beard balm for my husband, hand balm for myself (both with without plastic containers). And only just resisted the beautiful garden sculptures on display. The lovely lady working during my visit was both welcoming and very knowledgeable about the 70+ artists and crafts people represented in the shop. Would definitely visit again and highly recommend if you're looking for a unique and we'll made local item.

Absolutely recommend this place and activity! My wife and I came here at the start of a west coast roadie. It was a wonderful experience. The staff are all incredibly friendly, super helpful and knowledgable. Making your own jade piece is a really unique experience and one that we loved. Melwin made our experience all the more special and memorable. Thank you all for a wonderful day!

Westland Industrial Heritage Park

The Westland Industrial Heritage Park is part of the heritage walk in Hokitika. It’s an interesting place to see old machinery and talk to the wonderful volunteers that work on the bits of history. My personal favourite were the old fire trucks! Entry is free, but it’s definitely worth giving a donation to.

Denniston Heritage Trust

Reviewed By Jemmux96 - Wellington, New Zealand

Our trip to Denniston was surrounded in cloud due to the wet weather. Fortunately, none of the ambiance was taken away, if not enhanced by the mist covered ruins and step cliffs. Such intriguing history and such a dangerous environment for the miners to work in back in the early days of West Coast mining.

Te Koha Gallery

Set in our home our studio offers a friendly environment to carve a traditional or contemporary piece of New Zealand Stone - Nephrite Jade, Tangi Wai, Aotea, Rhodonite. Open 7 days a week at our home based studio. People of all ages and nationalities have had the chance to carve their own piece of our culture either as a gift or for themselves. This activity generally takes 1-2 hours depending on what we are carving. No artistic ability is required and people have really surprised themselves with what they have achieved. Its all about putting your energy into our special stones by making it yourself. A very unique souvenir unlike any other either for yourself or as a special gift.
