Sandakphu

Reviewed By Milugtr - Dhaka City, Bangladesh

Sandakphu, located in the Eastern Himalayas, is the highest peak of West Bengal, India in Darjeeling district. The entire area is inside the Singalila National Park which is a conservation area. You can trek your way up or you can also go by car, jeep, bike. I'll recommend trekking/hiking for the best experience through the lush pine greens, clouds and mountain village.
The main trail lies on the border of India and Nepal giving spectacular views of Mount Kanchenjunga, Sleeping Buddha, Pandim, Mount Everest and other Himalayan snow capped peaks. This view is seen mainly from the Sandakphu top or from certain points of the trail which starts from Manebhanjan if the sky is clear enough. But for the best views, one must go till Phalut (second highest peak of West Bengal).
This trek is known as a classic tea house/lodge trek as you can spend each night at the village lodges or tea houses. They will provide you with good food and cozy environments to spend cold nights. This is undoubtedly a must do hike if you're a nature and mountain lover and looking to start your high altitude experience.
Note: the pictures are taken on my hike during September 2015. I can't mark that timeline here as it only allows till September 2016.
