Waihi Beach is a coastal town at the western end of the Bay of Plenty in New Zealand's North Island. It lies 10 kilometres to the east of the town of Waihi, at the foot of the Coromandel Peninsula. The main beach itself extends approximately 10 kilometres to the south with the small settlement of Bowentown at its southern end. The headland at the southern of the beach is on the northern side of the northern (Katikati) entrance to Tauranga Harbour. Waihi Beach had a population of 1773 at the 2006 New Zealand Census but that number skyrockets to 16,000 in the Summer.

We hiked from Waihi Beach up into the bush to the jungle and it was a lovely walk. The best reward is the gorgeous secluded beach you end up on at the end!

Very clean facilities, friendly staffs, good hot shower for 50 cents 5 minutes. It was my first time camping and was amazing! Even with a rude neighbor in a cabin in front of my tent site (definitely not a fault from the place) my stay was perfect! I want to go back!

My pick for this beach is the Esplanade end in front of the Surf Club. A little bit more relaxed than Mount Maunganui but just as spectacular. This end of the beach has the added advantage of the raising coastline offering some shelter and rocks to climb on.

We were recommended by our lunch hosts to come here to walk off our meal and what a delight it was. It is around a 5km drive from Waihi Beach through a small area called Bowentown. On arrival there was plenty of parking and a lovely walk up to the top which I realise now I could see from the top of Mount Maunganui. The vista at the top of Bowentown was amazing, overlooking an island and the Pacific then down into Anzac Bay itself. The photos I took did not justify how beautiful and as my wife said, calming the area was. We walked back down the track onto the white sandy beach and had a paddle in not too chilly water. I have to say that I would love to come back in early December as the hills were covered in pohutukawa and those trees in bloom against the tranquil setting would be spectacular. This is an obvious favourite with the local people with kids swimming and fishing and just enjoying their backyard. A must if you are in the area most definitely. Oh and great toilet facilities as well, very clean.
