Badstrand

Reviewed By 177bask - Amstelveen, The Netherlands

Vlissingen municipality offers its visitors 6 beaches;Badstrand in front of Boulevard Evertsen is the most urban.Build up and busy Badstrand Vlissingen is situated in front of the high-rise apartment towers that face the busy marine traffic on the waterway of Westerschelde. The large ships can be seen passing in front of the beach. To the west the beaches become less build up and on warm sunny days there are less visitors as well. These beaches strech all the way to Westkapelle have names like Nollestrand,Duinstrand,West Duin. I enjoyed seeing the sunset and on less crowed days several species of marine birds can be seen on Vlissingen's beaches.Bird Species I saw on the Badstrand include Kentish Plover-(Strandplevier);Turnstone(-Steenloper),Oystercatcher-(Scholekster).

Windorgel Vlissingen

Reviewed By Robert937 - Rotterdam, The Netherlands

Twenty bamboo pipes vertically placed at the end of the Nolledijk form the windorgan, part of a project called Mass Moving initiated by Belgian artist Opstaele. The original 1975 organ consisted of 50 pipes, but was washed away by stormy waves in the 1980s. As the wind almost always blows at this place, the organ is always 'played'. Strange sonorous sounds can be heard and the tunes are always different. Exceptional experience.

Standbeeld Michiel Adriaanszoon de Ruyter uit 1841

Great (and feared) Dutch admiral. The statue is located on the Boulevard of Vlissingen/Flushing and from there you have a beautiful view on the city and the harbor. Nice place for a moment of rest.
