Vigevano (Italian pronunciation: [viˈdʒɛːvano] or [viˈdʒeːvano]; Western Lombard: Avgevan) is a town and comune in the province of Pavia, Lombardy in northern Italy. A historic art town, it is also renowned for shoemaking and is one of the main centres of Lomellina, a rice-growing agricultural district. Vigevano received the honorary title of city with a decree of Duke Francis II Sforza on 2 February 1532. It is famed for its beautiful Renaissance "Piazza Ducale" in the centre of the town.

Had the opportunity to visit the town of Vigevano, which is famous for handcraft manufacturing of Shoe's. This historic center was once part of the Duke Francis II Sforza's kingdom. You can walk along this magnificent center and have some pre-dinner drinks and then have dinner in one of the many restaurants. From the center square you can also center the castle grounds.

An impressive piece of architecture by the master, Bramante. Overlooking the exquisite Renaissance Piazza Ducale and also the interior of the ruined Castello Sforzesco. A good photographic opportunity

This is a lovely place to visit. The general area of the castle and courtyard are all free to the public. There are several small museums within the castle complex, all which are worth visiting. Some of these are free, or free is you enter by a certain time. The shoe museum was very interesting and the art gallery too. Both these were free.
A new Leonardo da Vinci exhibition is the most interesting one to visit. Around €5 per person.

Even with a guide book this was not a very interesting Cathedral. The most interesting aspect was the facade and its intrusion on the square- filling in the last side. It is Romanesque and so has very few windows high up, It is closed between 12 and 4pm, so was quite dark when it re-opened although in the height of summer it might be better. You need to be able to read Italian, to make the most of the artwork.

A superb new permanent exhibition, opened in May 2016, depicting the life and works of Leonardo da Vinci in the most thought-provoking and interesting ways. Leonardo spent time in Vigevano while working for Ludovico Sforza, so the huge and imposing castle of the Sforzas is an appropriate site for this innovative display, which makes imaginative use of multimedia, facsimiles of his writings and drawings, and high definition reproductions of all the authenticated paintings of the master. Vigevano is well worth visiting for its magnificent Renaissance piazza alone, but this new museum makes it an essential destination for tourists and art lovers.

By comparison to the Cathedral, this is a more interesting church. It dates from the 13th century although most of the building is more recent and there are some interesting features. It is closed between 12 and 4pm each day. There is a very nice statue of St Francis of Assisi outside which dates from a later time but which is an interesting piece.
