Vela Luka (pronounced [ʋela luka] ( listen)) (Italian: Vallegrande) is a small town and a municipality in Dubrovnik-Neretva County in southern Dalmatia, Croatia. The town is located on the western side of the island of Korčula at the bottom of a wide bay which has many indented coves. Vela Luka developed at the beginning of the 19th century in a deep sheltered bay. Its name means "big harbour" in Croatian chakavian. Inhabitants of the Island of Korčula and Pelješac often refer to it simply as "Luka" (the port/harbour). It has several hotels and a medical centre called Kalos (for rheumatic disorders and rehabilitation). The inhabitants are farmers, fishermen and workers in tourism. Also the town has other smaller industrial plants.

My partner and I drove from the old town in Korcula, across the entire island to Vela Luka JUST to try the Jerolim olive oil... and it was a MUST SEE! Marita and Jerolim have infused passion and their love for the artistry of olive oil to a whole new level. It was a wonderful experience sampling the oils, the marmalades, the fragrances, and liqueurs, hearing the origin story, and understanding the making of this champion organic olive oil. Do not hesitate. This is a must if you come to the island of Korcula. It was unparalleled and really made us fall in love with the island, the people, and its beautiful product, olive oil.

Luški puti is all about exploring Vela Luka, island of Korčula and everything around it in the most direct way. Hiking, biking and kayaking are our first choice when it comes to how we go about, but we don't mind doing whatever necessary to get us to places we want to explore.

These mosaics are made by people from all over the world. In the mosaic workshop you will be instructed in making mosaics and you can participate.
