Varkala's Hidden Gem It is said that in every place there hides a treasure only available to those who truly seek to find it. After 11 months living in Varkala and not really feeling called by any of the commercial yoga schools I met Yogacharya Ullas D Kumar by some incredible synchronisities. He offered a 21 days meditation program, no drop in, no break. He promised I would see results. As someone who struggles to trust, I was surprised to find myself signing up without a thought. Ullas is an incredibly humble advanced teacher with so much knowledge. During this deeply transformational time together I discovered so much about myself and unlearned just as much. Ullas's classes are designed to dissolve ego. So, the practice is repetitive and focused. You must be willing to surrender your ideas about how things should be and trust the immense source of ancient knowledge that he is. His classes are for those committed to diving deeper into self-knowledge and who wish to develop a consistent practice to support the expansion of consciousness. So, if you are ready to challenge yourself and to grow, you will certainly enjoy his classes. This time with Yogacharya was so immensely valuable, I shall forever cherish it.

Adishakti Yogashala

Namaste and Welcome to Varkala, the absolute kingdom of Ayurveda. We are nestled in a palm tree jungle bordered by one of the most stunning cliff beaches in the world. We aim to support your personal journey with daily yoga classes, Ayurveda therapies and spiritual ceremonies, all dedicated to your happiness. Adishakti offers an authentic blend of Ayurveda and Yoga courses for beginners and advanced practitioners. We focus on the traditional aspects of yoga. We feel that the yogic culture is losing its limbs. We empower traditional practices (bandhas, kryias, mudras lifestyle, yamas, niamas) and we believe that yoga and Ayurveda are like sisters and are linked together. This is the reason why our courses are based on this combo. We teach and share with our students how to live and build-up the ayurvedic lifestyle with authentic knowledge and wisdom. The school offers 100, 200, 300 hours Yoga Teacher Training Courses registered with Yoga Alliance USA and Ayurveda Courses.

I have just completed the most incredible, wonderful, informative, inspiring 200 hours yoga teacher training course with Adishakti Yogashala. I didn’t stay at their guesthouse Pachamama, as I already live somewhere else but Pachamama is a wonderful place to be based while doing the course. Lovely rooms and balcony space over looking the lush and green garden. And all of the food made for us was made with care and consideration while doing the course, tasty and delicious meals all day every day. All the teachers have been absolutely amazing. Their knowledge, care, compassion, support, guidance, humour and love has been so incredible. They have the most wonderful patience and are so supportive and have been so lovely to us all as a group and individually too. The theory classes were full of such in depth topics and I have learnt so much from each and every class. The Asana classes have taught me so much too. Manoj’s classes were extra special with his meditation, Mudra, pranayama and yoga nidra and included. Sujeesh is an incredibly patient fantastic ashtanga teacher. Anil’s alignment and adjustment classes were so helpful and beneficial to really understand the postures. I have learnt so much from each teacher due to their kindness, teaching and knowledge. I am so very grateful for everything that they have shared and I highly recommend this yoga school for the structure of their courses, the lessons, their knowledge and general all round excellent service that they give to their students and guests.

Janardhana Swami Temple

Being a very old temple, it has a very rich history. A search for the temple on the internet gives one a quick run throuhg history. The temple and surroundings are clean and very well maintained. Gents are required to be bare chested while in the temple of the main deity. Adjacent to the temple is the temple pond. An early morning visit to the temple to is a great way to meditate and get energised. The west side temple entrance provides road level access to the temple without the need to climbe steep stairs.

This is my fifth year in the Ayurvaeda center of Dr.Rasheed and Dr.Jamsheena. Their new center (400m from their previous center), built with ecological and natural materials, makes the atmosphere extremely pleasant, and beautiful under the coconut trees. Their center is a little paradise, and the treatment, whatever you might choose, makes you feel newborn ( that is my sentiments), and that’s why I am coming back year after year, and surly am going back next year also for three more weeks in paradise!! Don’t hesitate!, as we say in french «l’essayer, c’est l’adopter», «you try it you adopt it»!
