Gorges de l'Ardeche

There are many, many walking trails through the area of the Ardeche, particularly around the gorges. The trails are sometimes well-marked, but sometimes not. Regardless, the variety of terrain is stunning, from gorge views to desert-like scrub, through vineyards, chestnut groves, and surprising hamlets. The area has great opportunity for a wide range of hiking abilities. It is not mountain-top hiking, but it offers plenty of wonderful surprises.

Caverne du Pont d'Arc

Reviewed By GothenburgProfessor - Gothenburg

I realized the day before that Caverne du Pont d'Arc is not the real thing it's a replica although an excellent such (I guess as I have only seen films of the real cave). It's difficult not to become impressed by all the paintings, carvings and handprints. The guide was really knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. The Caverne du Pont d'Arc is a must if you are in this area of France.

Le Pont d'Arc

This was well worth the drive into the Mountains of Vallon-Pont-d'Arc. It's a dramatic sight to view the natural arch carved by eons of water flowing through the gorge and wearing the shape into the stone walls touching the river bank. One of the best sights in the area for me.

Riviere et Nature

Chosen largely at random, this proved a well organised, competent company.
Canoes and equipment very standard; transport before and after trip was excellent. Good command of English by all staff encountered. Took the 14km trip....about right for a half day. Beware river can get very crowded and some canoe users very pushy at flumes and rapids.
