There are experiences which take you far out of yourself-something we all need these days. We were able to interact with a handful of incredibly different animals, to learn about them, and to ultimately swim with otters-if that doesn't make you giddy with joy then nothing can. Our otter experience started with five three month old otters roaring about in a pack all around our seated bodies, and continued with our holding the three banded armadillo, feeding the paca, petting the two toed sloth and watching him make his way up the tree and around the enclosure, feeding the red kangaroos, crested porcupine, red ruffed lemur and finally was topped off with our otter swim. It was far beyond my wildest expectations! Kevin and Wendy and their staff are warm, professional, and incredibly dedicated to the health and well being of their animals. They have run in-school animal education for years and now offer this experience for free to Make-a-Wish kids, which these visits support. It is a truly joyful experience, and there's no better way to get to know your fellow participants than to watch otters climb in and out of their shirts!

Bates Farm is a wonderful place to visit anytime of the year. There are several events during the year, yet my grandkids love going there anytime they visit to feed and see the farm animals. Of course when they finish, we must visit the country store with its freshly mad delicious fudge, barrels of candy, and rows of specialty treats. Going to the back of the store, there are several unique gifts to purchase. One could make reservations to even get married at Bates Farm in its beautiful country setting. We love visiting Bates Nut Farm year round.
