We will walk together in and around the city center for three hours, discovering Helsinki's secrets, learning its history, culture and traditions. Why do Helsinki people have picnic on top of graves? What was the meeting point of the bohemian people of 1880s in Helsinki? How did they build a church inside a giant granite rock? Where did Lenin hide when he was running away from the Tsarist Russia? Which statue is the one that seagulls hate the most? Where did they bury thousands of bodies during the plague? Why is the largest Orthodox cathedral located in a Lutheran country? Where can you eat the best salmon soup of your life? Why Finnish people still cheer for the opponents of the Swedish national football team? How did a Finnish architect influence generations of American architects and skyscraper designs? We will find answers to all of these questions and more, while visiting each of these less known yet important locations in Helsinki.

On this trip you get the feel of the dynamics of a rough sea and how to safely drive in speed under such conditions that leaves most of the regular boats in shore. You will notice how a commercial RIB -boat works under these conditions and realise why this boat type is used in resque missions, by the military and the coast guard.

This experience was actually a part of my birthday surprise and I so loved it!! We had Lief as the instructor and he explained everything to us so well. He was super friendly and very patiently answered all our questions and helped us to adjust to this new and completely different activity we decided to try. I would definitely recommend doing this. You will be so surprised at how relaxing and surreal it is.

Outstanding experience from start to finish - You have to put it on your bucket list!!! With Leif and Robert, we took the hovercraft to head to an ice edge where we had an ice swimming experience in survival suits. It is so comfortable and peaceful to float around in cold water! And I got to see up close a boat going to Tallinn through the frozen sea. We traveled though wintery Helsinki/Sipoo archipelago with the hovercraft to an island where we had an arctic tasty lunch. Bathed in sunlight, the landscapes were simply breathtaking. What an extraordinary day!!! Tack så mycket guys for the experience and the company :-) :-)

This guided foraging tour from Helsinki immerses us into the forest and the magical world of fungi. Bright oranges, golden yellows, and deep reds decorate the forest floor. We are in search of Finland's most delicious and prized edible mushrooms, the chanterelle. It is also a personal favourite here at Taiga Times. However, as the name suggests, it is a hunt! We will not always find what we are looking for, and although most of the mushrooms are harmless, there are many poisonous ones too. But not to worry, for your guide will able to show you which are edible and is always available to explain about the different fungi you have found. Highlights: • Forage with a professional guide in a national park • Learn how to identify specific edible mushrooms • Help prepare and cook your wild fungi finds • Enjoy a Finnish-style lunch and coffee by the campfire

Inclusions: Coffee and/or Tea, Finnish-style lunch over the campfire, Air-conditioned vehicle, WiFi on board, Raincoat

Exclusions: As a sustainable company we don't provide plastic bottles and we highly recommend you to take a reusable water bottle with you.

Pick up was on-time at 10:00am from a downtown hotel. Tour guide (Ray) was pleasant and informative. The first two hours covered local sites around Helsinki by van with several stops to walk around (Sibelius Park, Modern Library and two prominent churches). We had about 45 minutes for lunch on our own before taking the ferry to Suomenlinna fortress. We spent about 90 minutes walking around the fortress before boarding the ferry back to Helsinki, arriving at the dock by 3:15pm where the tour ended. There was no ride back to the hotel, but we were only several blocks away. A few good things to know about the tour. The morning was flexible and we changed plans several times as we found churches in-service. Also, it is a pretty long walk at the fortress over rough cobblestone. The weather in February was cold, so wearing good shoes and warm clothes (coat, hat, gloves, etc.) is a must. Overall it was a very good tour and a great way to get our bearings in Helsinki on our first day in town.
