Char Dham Yatra is a tour of the four Hindu shrines namely Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. These shrines are located in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. This yatra is also called Chota Char Dham Yatra. The holy river Yamuna originates from Yamunotri, Maa Ganga from Gangotri, Mandakani from Kedarnath and Alakhnanda, Saraswati from Badrinath ji. Kedarnath is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Shiva in India which is considered to be the main places of worship of Lord Shiva. The Char Dhams of India are Badrinath, Rameshwaram, Jagannath Puri and Dwarka which were founded by Adi Shankracharya. All Hindus aspire to go to these four shrines once in their lifetime. We went in Nov 2020, started to trek from Jankichatti. Though the kms displayed is 5kms, but in total its a trek of almost 19kms both sides. The view wile trekking is great but in a certain point you will the route, as you hvave to enter the forest and uphill trek. Its better to ask the local for routes, to avoid getting missed. The temple is good and has hot springs, food availability is not much. But, you can get biscuits and Maggie, chai. We could see snow on the mountains and river alongisde.

A life time experience with the perfect company. From planning to execution everything was done nicely. Being the first batch of 2021 the trek was about to be postponed or cancelled by the government, but our tour leaders did everything they could and in the end made the trip happen. The stay before the trek was very beautiful, all the team was very caring and friendly. The food throughout the trip was really delicious. Who can expect chole bhature in the middle of a trek? All these small things made us very happy, afterall "insaan k dil ka raasta uske pet se hota hai". The price they quote is quite high from other companies in the market but the services are worth it. Would love to go on regular trips with Outdoor Monks.

Situated at an altitude of 3,048, on the banks of the holy river Bhagirathi, Gangotri is considered the second dham in the chardham package. It is the highest and the most important shire of goddess Ganga. The present temple was built by Amar Singh Thapa, a Gorkha General in the 18th century and is worshipped as the source of Ganges. Although, the source of Ganges, gaumukh is 18 km from Gangotri and can only be reached by a trek route. Gangotri offers scenic vistas of gushing water, rugged terrain and snow clad Himalayas. Gangotri holds a very important place in the Hindu Mythology. It is believed that Lord Shiva received Ganga in his matted locks when the river descended from Heaven to earth. There is a natural rock shivling submerged under water and can be seen easily in winters when the water levels decrease. The Gangoti temple is closed on the day of Diwali for the winters because the region receives heavy snowfalls and becomes inaccessible. The temple is opened in May.
