Went to see what was left of the Lord of the Rings set. Not much, a few signs and the archway. It was a short walk to get there from the car park so not much time wasted. The river near by and the walkways are beautiful, a great way to spend a few hours. We crossed the swing bridge which was a bit of a feat for me as I don’t like heights and it does swing quite a lot when you are in the middle, especially if people are moving quickly over it. Having said that, the view of the river from the bridge is amazing.

We had an excellent in-depth tour with co-owner Natasha of this state-of-the-art facility. I was especially impressed by their reuse/reduce/recycle philosophy, from sending their used mash to farms as cattle feed, recycling their steam, reusing barrels, corn-based tasting cups, and more. They paid a great deal of attention to creating a low carbon footprint while brewing some fantastic beers. We tasted a seaweed ale (my first), coconut porter, IPAs, sours, pilsner, and various other types of ales--the whole tap wall. This is a takeaway taproom, so bring a growler or two and prepare to enjoy.

About a 30 minute walk up, stunning views then you have the option of a quick walk down or a slow 60 minute walk down the road.
This is as good as Runyon Canyon, great views out South to Wellington and north to Twin Lakes. You're likely to see Tui's, sheep and locals training.
Good Cardio and no snakes, or noxious vermon.

Without doubt the best course in the Wellington region. It has undergone substantial redesign and improvements continue (Augusta style Bridges springing up all over the place and major irrigation works on several holes). The course hosted the New Zealand amateur championships last year and this year hosts the Asia Pacific Amateur. The greens are running true and fast at long last. After your round enjoy a drink or lunch in the original club house.

Been here a few times now and it just keeps getting better. We would go more often if work didn't get in the way. This cinema is not too big and maintains a very friendly relaxed atmosphere. The food is fresh, coffee and tea are great and there is a good selection of cold drinks. The theatre itself has been fitted out with great Seating and cushions. No musty old second hand couches here, they were all made new for the theatre. Went to the preview for Trainspotting 2 last night and had a great time. Bacon sandwiches and a drink were included in the price (approx $19 each I think). This great theatre often has special nights and I think there is a date night every week. It is worth keeping an eye on their website for what's coming. The staff are super friendly and very accommodating, in the winter there is usually a cozy fire inside. Nice just to go here for coffee and cabinet food. Looking forward to our next visit. Well done Miro Cinema, nice to see a local business offering so much to our community.

If you want a hike that's a great work out with fantastic views, but without having to track over tree roots or clamber over rocky outcrops, Mt Climie's the one!
This is a 4 wheel drive track (used for maintaining the repeater stations / cell towers so in reasonable condition) which climbs almost without a break to the top peaks.
There's view points all along the track but culminates with spectacular outlooks over Hutt Valley, Wellington, Palliser Bay, Wairarapa, Cook Strait and the top of the South Island.
Make sure you take plenty of warm clothes (including beanie and gloves) because the temperature drops as you climb and any wind increases the chill factor markedly! Additionally, the top ridge is above the tree line so totally exposed.
There is a huge variety of vegetation as the altitude increases, even featuring (according to the Wellington Regional Council) the only area of snow tussock in the Rimutaka Range.
Note there are 2 peaks - North Climie at 830m and Climie No 2 at 860m. There is a very little area of shelter at No. 2 but a good sized area at the North Climie in the lee of one of the tower maintenance facilities.
This is a Greater Wellington Regional Council track in the Pakarutahi Forest, so best to go to their website for a track map.
Toilet facilites at the bottom of the hill on the way in.

This is a "Garden of Significance" in New Zealand and deservedly so. It is an easy ramble through the artistic world of its owners. Pine plantations, stream Bridges, rolling green lawns, natives and bonsai are all presented on 11 acres among the bush clad hills of the Akatarawa Valley just north of Wellington. Dotted throughout the privately owned Gardens (but open to the public with an honour system entrance fee) are artworks in a range of styles. The outdoor artworks are complemented by the on-site indoor gallery presenting important early New Zealand original paintings. Owners Ernest and Shirley Cosgrove are 100% pure New Zealanders with their hospitality and Ernest's playfulness/whimsy in outdoor artwork he either made himself, or he had commissioned, will put a smile on your face. Even the name Efil Doog is a word play. (Hint: read the letters backwards.)
If you enjoy Gardens, this one with some outstanding rhodos (great in late October and into November) are worthy of a visit. Not to detract from visiting, but you do need to have a car to reach the garden. Do go -- it's worth the effort.

While visiting a friend in Wellington and as it was her birthday we decided to go out for lunch and chose Aston Norwood in Upper Hutt. The choice of food was enough to please anyone. The staff were informative and polite. We had a lovely time and I look forward to returning. I will fully recommend a visit to Aston Norwood restaurant to my friends.
