Elroy-Sparta State Trail

A 34-mile trail.

I've come back to bike here several times over about thirty years. Besides things growing not much has changed with the trail. The towns have been good at offering great places to eat or rest etc too.
I visited in early July during the week. There were still several other bikers. You could tell they had recent rains that caused some damage and soft spots, some still wet. They NEED to fix the lack of drainage by the hwy under pass (near Norwalk) yuck!
I'm always unsure that they use the funds for the trail very well? Not just this time but same feeling from past visits. Come to IOWA to bike...NO FEES! :-) MN too. Why is it $5 a day?
Very neat restored Depot in Kendall! BUT it was closed...gee hard to get water then, didn't see outside source even. Continue on to Wilton, the water fountain along the trail is out of service! LUCKY ME I found the library and city center with a COLD water fountain. And saw they had a pool that would still be open after my ride! Just $2 great shower and clean & nice pool...PERFECT!!

You got to love the tunnels on this trail. Great on a hot day. Bring your flashlight etc, hard to believe how many I met w/o one. Lots of shade on the trial as well.

FYI I was never checked for my pass the whole 60 mile day.

Humbird Cheese Mart

First discovered when travelling for work, and we have been loyal customers since 1998. We order for Christmas every year. Favorite cheeses: Morel and Leek Monterey Jack, Cranberry Cheddar, Havartis, Smoked Swiss & Cheddar. Plus, they have great sausages such as Elk, Venison and Buffalo, cheese spreads, soup mixes. Their customer service is outstanding. They are my go to at Christmas every year. I recommend ordering bulk (1 lb blocks, minimum of three items to ship) rather than the gift boxes. You do pay shipping with bulk, but more product for the money.

The Quilted Rooster

During a rainy visit to Cranfest in central Wisoinsin we decided to do some indoor activities instead of tramping through the mud. I looked up quilt shops in the area and went to the Quilted Roster. It is a small shop with a lovely assortment of fabrics you won't see at the big box stores. The owner was friendly and helpful and answered a variety of questions about quilting. The prices were reasonable but she only accepts cash or checks. Well worth looking for when you need that something different!
