It has been ages since I visited this old castle with the most stunning view over the Etschtal. I was blown away how beautiful the castle had been renovated and how interesting the museum is. I would definitely classify it as a must see when in the area. The only criticism is that whilst everything is labeled in German and Italian, it was not in English, which is a true pity!!!!

The birds of prey exhibition is very expensive and small. Teher are many birds in old cages. And there is also show with these birds of prey - falcons, hawks, eagles, vultures and owls. But the show is very poor when compared with any other I have seen. It looks like parody of such an attraction. Do not visit it! Do not waste your time and money!

I've visited these lakes several times, most recently in September. It's a hike, but the views and Mountains are worth the experience. These lakes are pristine, clear, and very accessible. On the right kind of day, an icy swim is a refreshing treat.

Castle Thurnstein

Reviewed By dekomo - Moscow, Russia

It's not a real touristic attraction but a hotel in a former castle. Not especially remarkable but worth to run in if you are near (like after visiting the Castle Tirol). The restaurant has a Terrace with nice views but you can hardly find a free table at the lunch time.
The bus #236 connects this place to the Tappeiner Promenade and Meran railway station.

You can see all the way up the valley to Mountains located in Austria on a clear day, but the museum itself was a bit disappointing. The castle is properly huge and forbidding.

I don't know if I heard correctly that this church is from the 6th (maybe 16th?) Century. This building is very old in either case and the frescoes alone are worth the visit.

Nature Trail

There are many beautiful walks around the town of Tirolo. I would recommend (1) the Apfelweg: This walk takes you through the apple orchards. They grow apples on vines rather than trees in this area. (2) the Weinweg: This is a must. It's a gorgeous walk through the vineyards. (3) the Falkner Promenade: This is an easier walk with a gorgeous view. You can get a map of these and other walks from your hotel or in town.
During these walks you run across a few Castles, too.

Fantastico ! ! !
