Athirappilly Falls

Reviewed By explorekeralam_in - Kerala, India

The largest and the best waterfall in Kerala. This waterfall doesn't dry up like the other seasonal falls we come across in Kerala. Even in peak summer( April-May), there will be minimal flow ensured by the reservoirs in the upstream of the Chalakuy river. The entry tickets have to be taken from the Sholayar check-post approx a few minutes before the falls ( while coming from Chalakudy side). It is allowed to enter into the river at the top side whereas you are not allowed at the bottom of the fall. There is a dress change facility available. There are also few snack bars managed by the eco-development committee managed by the forest department. To reach the bottom of the fall there is a paved path. it is easy to walk down to the bottom of the fall but the climb up is tiring. But it is amazing to see and hear the water falling from the bottom of the falls.

This is a Shiva temple and it is believed that Lord Shiva was first to offer prayer to Lord Vishnu at the Guruvayur temple and the pilgrimage to Guruvayur only completes when you offer prayer at the Mammiyur Shiva temple. Very calm place with no rush. You can get darshan with out any difficulties or waiting period.

Vazhachal Waterfalls

Reviewed By catNorway - India, null

If you need to 'do' something in order to enjoy, stay away. This is a pure 'be' place. About 6 kms from Athirapilly water falls, another 'be' place, Vazhachal rapids change into waterfalls during the monsoon, due to the rocks on which the water roars in its inability to be still. Yet, this very fact and the excellent way that Vazhachal is managed, without anything to do except park the car and walk down, provides visitors with the opportunity to be, just be and experience movement. Conversations take a back seat as the roaring river drowns most sounds. Beware of monkeys waiting for a quick bite from the hands of the unwary and beware of wild elephants on this road. Stop at Chappa falls on the way back to be able to distinguish furious roars from mighty roars. They are much more than beautiful or powerful. Go there, and just be.

Its a good place for 1 day trip with family and friends. In summer season water will be less and we can take bath. Please make sure your safety as we couldnt confirm the depth inside the rocks. If you are going with kids please make sure they are not going there. It will be slippy on the rocks and sometimes water will be very rush. Please take advices form the security guards. on the other bank of the river we have a butterfly garden. Ropeway and playing area for children. Its a quiet and calm place for 1 day trip. During monsoon its very nice to see waterflows........
