you need to book online at least the day before but there are machines outside the museum so its easy to book. The actual museum is fantastic .... very easy to follow the audio tape around the different rooms...plenty of space just to chill and sit and admire the paintings... the history is fascinating and my 11 yr old granddaughter was so inspired she hasnt stopped painting since I loved my visit here and now want to go to New York to see the starry night painting..

The Frans Hals Museum is worth the short travel from Amsterdam. There are two sites, The Frans Hals Museum about five minutes walk from the Great Market Place and the "De Hallen Haarlem" Museum on the Market Place. Both are accessible with the same ticket. The first contains many of Hals' masterpieces as well as a supporting cast of other Dutch Masters which are related in some way. The museum is seasonally decorated with flowers (23.5-2.6.19) which are particularly beautiful and add immensely to the artistic atmosphere of the museum. The De Hallen Museum, is housed in a beautiful Dutch building on the Market Place and contains a variety of contemporary artists' works. An effort has been made to tie these works to those of Hals and his contemporaries. The inside has been artfully modernized and is worth a visit just for its architectural merits.

Really interesting and well curated, short tram ride from the city centre, must do in Den Haag for anyone who likes modern art (lots of big names like Van Gogh and Mondriaan as well as some really contemporary art). Cafe ok.

Mauritshuis is a one of a kind well thought, conveniently arranged for all art lovers needs museum- four in one experience to the highest standards: exuberant historic building in the hart of the city, exquisite art collection, smart marketing model on all souvenir collection at the museum shop (hard to resist) and a stylish cafe to share impressions over a cup of coffee about Dutch Golden Age masterpieces. So far, Mauritshuis has offered the most enriching, 360 degree satisfaction experience from the first visit onward and by now I've been two or three times including the themed event. And want to come back for another great collection.

A great museum with a very large collection of primarily Flemish, together with some French paintings from the Middle Ages till the 20th century. Lots of Rubens. The presentation is very well done. Lots of explanations that are comfortable to read and in English also. This is how a museum should show its works. IN addition, on week days you can see certain panels of Adoration of the Lamb being restored by specialists behind a glass window. There is a display station with all sorts of information on it. I understand that on weekends the panels are displayed. Not every museum can be the Louvre or the Met but there are lots of good paintings here and we enjoyed it very much.

We visited the Rembrandt House in late April and got in for free with the I Amsterdam card. There were no lines and the museum was not crowded. They have excellent free audio tours in multiple languages including English, Dutch, German, Italian, French, Spanish and Russian. We noted that they also had a children's audio tour in English in Dutch; however, I think most but not all children would find this museum to be boring. Since Rembrandt both lived here, ran and art school and worked here for 20 years and because of the inventory that was conducted when he went bankrupt is still in existence, the curators have been able to accurately refurbish the home with objects of the period. For those with mobility issues or claustrophobia, it is important to understand that the spiral staircases are steep and narrow. While there were many interesting exhibits in the museum, three stood out for me as especially interesting. First was the entrance where a chair was kept on an elevated platform for people watching on the street. Second, the beds, especially the maid's box bed in the kitchen clearly shows that the occupants slept sitting up (for their health). Finally, the highlight of the museum was the 20-30 explanation and demonstration as to how artists made their paints during the age of Rembrandt. This helps you see the paintings in the Rijksmuseum, Mauritshuis, Hermitage and other museums that you will see in the Netherlands.

We went to see the castle during this Summer's heatwave in Holland. The castle was closed due to comprehensive restoration work, which will end with the opening of a modern museum at the castle grounds in 2021, but the gardens and the rooftop terrace were open. When you're in, a lift takes you to the roof, from where the amazing garden opens in all its splendor. The hedges and flowers in the garden are laid out in intricate patterns, and around the garden you'll find various sculptures in relation to myths and sculptures from classical antiquity. Beautiful fountains dot the grounds, and you can spend quite some time wandering around looking at all the various details in the flowers, sculptures and fountains. The garden is incredibly well kept. The palace is usually closed on Mondays, although there may be exceptions. The price of an adult ticket is 8,5 euro.

This ultra-modern arty museum is well worth a visit, just a short walk from the centre, near the station - nicely laid-out on several floors, helpful staff and interesting varied art and artefacts - an enjoyable couple of hours, and great apple cake in the museum's cafe !!

First of all ,I realized that Leiden is a city opened to culture.I would have liked to find an English booklet about the history of the museum .The building that looked like an elegant palace impressed me by its beauty ,I was curious to see what gems It hides inside ,I had a Museum Card ,but I had to wait at the desk ,there were many tourists there in the afternoon . The history and art museum tells several stories ,I was confused upstairs ,but step by step ,I painted ''my own painting''about the highlights of the collection .I was lucky to catch the temporary exhibition of Rembrandt ,the star of it was for me The peddler selling spectacles ,an early work of art and '' History painting ''. A real challenge was the woolen cloth Merchant hall where I could see for the second time ,the masterpiece of Lucas van Leiden ,The last Judgment ,seen by me in Amsterdam two years ago ,in a temporary exhibition .I also liked the Lamentation of Christ by another significant painter from Leiden ,Cornelius E . Gerrit Dou ,a student of Rembrandt danced in a small cabinet with The Astronomer as well as Jan Steen with the joyful The Merry Couple for example ,they were my favourite Dutch painters of the Golden age ,too. Upstairs I learnt that Theo van Doesburg stayed in Leiden where he founded the famous de Stijl movement ,The collection of decorative art and applied art was also interesting.
