Wolf Haven International

Provides sanctuary for captive-born wolves, guided visits and educational programs about wildlife.

Reviewed By Chuck H - Spring, Texas

Wolf Haven provides a place for wolves that either were injured or formerly owned by humans who could no longer care for them or abused them. They also participate in the efforts to rebuild the species in North America. This was a superb educational experience good for anyone over the age of 7. The docents are excellent.

Rusty Wallace Racing Experience

Reviewed By David D - Surrey, Canada

This is an amazing way to experience what it is like in a real stock car. Definitely buy at least 10 laps as it takes a while to get comfortable in the car. Starting out with a ride with a professional driver is great as he shows you the track before you drive on your own.

Mill Lane Winery

Award-winning, family run winery that prides itself on creating delicious, fresh-tasting wines from locally sourced produce. We also have a robust line of reds, whites and specialty wines.

Reviewed By Pamela R - Roy, Washington, United States

Pleasantly surprised as I drove down the driveway to the back of their home to find the hidden gem of Mill lane winery. The owners welcomed us with a happy smile and made us feel welcome immediately. We were seated and immediately served some of the best wine I have tasted in any place I have ever been for a wine tasting. They were remodeling their wine tasting room and everything was absolutely beautiful. The wines we tasted were explained in explicit detail and the appetizers on the new menu were very tasty and paired well with the wines that we tasted. I believe they had about 30 wines to choose from and believe it or not in that little gem of a winery in the back of that house all the wines are made right there in the winery. Their wine club is the best around Deana offers some very good deals and I can't wait to get my first wine club order in November. I would certainly recommend this experience to anyone who enjoys wine tasting. We are fortunate to live close enough and we look forward to going back and trying some of the other wines that we did not taste and have a glass of wine and relax in the warm and inviting atmosphere that is provided at Mill lane winery. Congratulations Dan and Deana on two years in business. I voted for you for best winery on KING 5 and I truly hope you make it.

In preparation for moving to this area, I purchased a Groupon for a wine tasting here. We finally redeemed the Groupon (tasting and appetizers for 2) this weekend. The location itself was a but disappointing, as I didn't realize it was a storefront in a bit of a rundown area. Inside, however, was quaint and charming. Andrea (one of the owners) was very friendly and informative. They served delicious appetizers from a local restaurant, and really had some unique wines to taste. We felt very welcome and at home, and we reserved our spot at an upcoming murder mystery dinner they are hosting in October.

Sandstone Distillery

Reviewed By Hal72 - Olympia, Washington

We started off with a short history lesson of the area. The distillery has a collection of old tools and photographs of the old sandstone quarry, which provided lots of high quality building stone for the nation. Next was a tour of the manufacturing process where we learned, and saw, how all the products are made. Then, a tasting of many of them. They have a wide variety of Washington-sourced whiskies, gins, vodkas, and syrups. Entertaining, very tasty, and many ideas as to how to serve in mixed drinks and cocktails; recipes provided too.

Aunt Kate's Chocolates

Reviewed By TravelingFan22

If you don't already love chocolate, this shop will change your mind.

I had the milk chocolate covered caramels (they also have dark chocolate, with or without salt). Since I bought two, I had planned to give one to my husband when I got home, but his caramel never made it. Luckily I didn't buy a pound because it would all have been gone. The candy just melts in your mouth with a rich chocolate and buttery taste.

So I saved the two pieces of fudge (each the size of a small cupcake) for dinner. Mine didn't make it that far. It was every bit as good as the caramel piece.

The shop also has a large variety of teas and antiques. I didn't buy either, but it was fun to look.

This is a small shop in a small town, but the chocolate is big on flavor and freshness. Worth the drive!

Lattin's Country Cider Mill & Farm

Reviewed By SeattleMeadowlark - Seattle

Two years ago, I purchased the last bottle of hickory smoke barbecue sauce on Lattin's shelf. It was EXCELLENT stuff...low sodium and just the right piquancy. There were other flavors, two of which were raspberry chipotle and vidalia onion. They had at least ten bottles of each, and nobody bought them. Over the last two years, I've stopped in fairly often, waiting for Lattin's to restock their barbecue sauces, but they never have. Little by little the other flavors disappeared, but still there's the onion and the raspberry junk. In two years time they've moved them around, once they lined up all eight bottles of the raspberry in order to make it look like they had more BBQ sauce than they really do. There's at least a years worth of dust on the bottles, which tells you they are old.
What does it say about a company that refuses to re-order a flavor of anything until the stuff no one wants is finally bought? What does it say about the management, one that pays no attention whatsoever to stock on the shelves? One that has never heard of 'rotation'? And who wants stuff that was bottled AT LEAST two years, and perhaps three years ago? I would not be surprised if the other things they have on their shelves are at least as old as the sauce.
Sorry to say, Lattin's shelf goods are pretty sorry.

Millersylvania State Park

One of the highlights of this state park is Deep Lake, a summertime favorite among local residents.

Reviewed By SkykomishBob - Olympia, Washington

As people who haven’t camped in a decade maybe, and rarely camped in state parks when we were actual “campers,” we were dazzled by the amenities and enjoyment offered at Millersylvania. We wanted to camp with our grandkids and their parents where we could enjoy some fishing.

Deep Lake appears to teem with fish, not big or special fish, but when your 10-year-old grandson can catch an 8-inch bass and his 4-year-old brother is ecstatic about being able to hold it briefly, that is a fine outcome. A bobber, worms, and a hook. Not at all what this fly fisher thinks real fishing is about, but exactly the right kind of fishing of for grandkids. Just sitting around a campfire pit in the cooling evening was a joy.

Comfortably appointed campgrounds; restrooms with hot water, toilet paper, showers, etc. less than half an hour from our home in Olympia. This may well become an annual event for us.

My wife and I took our Granddaughters to the Park today, June 29, 2016, to have a picnic and to tour the grounds. Unfortunately, there were "CLOSED" signs posted on all of their signs. We decided to have our picnic anyway at one the the umbrella-adorned tables at the entrance, hoping that no one would shoo us away. A cute tabby watchcat greeted us, but we bribed him/her with some cheese, and we were allowed to finish our meal.
We have been here a couple of times before, and thoroughly enjoyed the visits. What a bummer that it is closed. I didn't quite grasp the whole story about the closure, but they need $7000 for a permit to continue to operate. You can get the whole story from their website.
