I found Puke Ariki to be an excellent local/regional museum and attraction covering, history, geology, marine etc. Very well presented, very open and modern. Also has an excellent gift shop. Next time in New Plymouth I shall return.

Conveniently located in the Puke Ariki Museum, with ample public parking, this visitor center has a friendly, helpful staff and a great selection of brochures and maps for the immediate area, as well as other locations in New Zealand. It also has a lovely gift shop with unique New Zealand merchandise. While we were there, a couple asked them for dining suggestions and they welcomed our input...so we suggested a place where we had just had a fantastic meal, the Arborio Cafe, which was right across the hallway, in the same building.

Egmont National Park Visitor Centre

Reviewed By YvonneC2735 - Palmerston North, New Zealand

We did a 20 minute walk then the Connet Loop Track which was a 40 minute walk. First easy going but second (at age 79) a bit more challenging. However I did it and was glad I did. Beautiful views of the mountain at various lookouts. Only thing I was missing was the bird song. The bush seemed to be very quiet. Friends purchased jackets from the shop. Very good value.
