Rotokare Scenic Reserve

Rotokare Scenic Reserve is a community-led conservation project of regional significance. Protected by a 8.4km predator-proof fence, the sanctuary provides a safe environment for rare and endangered native species, including hihi/stitchbird, titipounamu/ rifleman, toutouwai/ NI robin, kiwi, tieke/ saddleback. There are two well maintained walks - the lake edge 4km, or the shorter and steeper ridgeline walk. All visitors are asked to check vehicles and equipment for predators (rats, mice, tec) before entering through the double gates. Dogs are NOT PERMITTED.

The Goblin Forest

I went back a 2nd time as I thought the Enchanted Walk was the right place, but it is not. The correct walk is near the Stratford Mountain House. Approx 20-30 minutes, easy access but not wheelchair friendly. Amazing trees, saw a Wood Pigeon and heard many other birds.

4. The Barn
