Hilltribe Market

We stopped here on the drive from Mae Sot to Tak. This used to be a very difficult road but its now a magnificent 4 lane highway ! Great engineering effort through the Mountains! The market is very extensive extremely clean ! The fruit and Vegetables on sale are magnificent the Local strawberries a highlight! As well they have clothing and and array of other goods. Its obviously a market to servive locals not tourists but we found it a highlight of our Journey in this part of Thailand. Stop and enjoy the colour sounds and aroma of local activities!

Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge

Reviewed By ditsywitsy - Torquay, United Kingdom

Have crossed this bridge many times, as flying into Mae Sot saves me a nine plus hour road trip from Yangon to Myawaddi. However this time it was chaos. Recent conflict in the northern Shan had close the border crossing at Muse and there were long lines of truck either side of the border waiting to use the border crossing. The crossing from Thailand into Burma usually takes less that 30 mins. The car waits for you to go through Thai immigration then takes you across the friendship bridge to the Burmese immigration post and once through there straight to your hotel. This time the car was stranded on the Thai side and I had to walk across the bridge and then get a motorcycle taxi to the hotel. The taxi and my bags arrived more than 3 hours later. Going back was much smoother as we did it early in the morning.
