A very interesting and well designed museum with a variety of exhibits ranging from the sciences & space to natural history to local and international culture... Could easily spend a whole day here and only touch the surface. Our 2yr old loved the dinasaur exhibit as well as the many interactive displays. Will defenitly return again [maybe without the little one ;-) ]

Fire Safety Museum

Registering 7.2 on the Richter scales, the January 17, 1995 Great Hanshin earthquake — then Japan’s worst natural disaster since World War II, next only to the Isewan Typhoon — left 6,430 dead, 40,000-odd injured, more than 510,000 houses partially or fully destroyed. It also  caused private and public property losses, totaling 10 trillion yen. On July 10th of that same year, the newly restructured Taipei City Fire Department set about building Taiwan’s first fire safety museum and arming it with simulation features, in order to raise awareness about natural crises and the correct approaches to tackling them. Employing computerized, electronic or mechanical simulations, the museum now offers quasi-physical experiences of various natural hazards — along with thorough mini-documentaries on their respective histories and characteristics — in the hope that visitors will make preparations accordingly for fires, floods, earthquakes, typhoons and other types of calamity part of their daily life. Fun tips are also incorporated into the exhibits to help visitors brace for the unexpected more efficiently. In conveying what they have learned from those educational displays to friends and families, the museum-goers can spread the message and help to effectively avert the threat of disasters. Keep in mind: (1) All visitors will be charged an admission fee. To ensure high-quality services, however, please follow the museum guides’ instructions. (2) Interactive displays are available ONLY to visitors aged 4 or older.

We visited with my 4 years old. It was not very crowded. They offered guided tours. We experienced what we should do if there was a fire. Also, there is a place to experience earthquake. They provided fire fighter costumes for Kids to put on and tried to put out a fire. It is fun to spend half day there.

Even it was pricey at USD66 for two adults and two kids, especially because we only stopped by for two hours... I can imagine it'll be very worth it if you spend an entire day here (unlimited entry) in this three-storey building. It's rather new and the quality of the activities are good. We really liked that they brought many outdoor experiences indoor... which makes sense since it rains almost all year round here and they also made those activities safe for younger kids. Our four year-old could experience simulated canoeing, ziplining and rock-climbing. Take note: I remembered there is an age/height limit for some of these activities... probably four years old or a larger three year-old. On the role-playing end, they have a "farmer's market" which is rather commonplace but nonetheless still a favourite among girls. The role-playing that's more unique was their campsite where they have a simulated tent and bonfire, "wild creatures" like foxes and owls all in the confines of a dark room to let you feel like you're doing night camping in the wild! One of the most memorable was their craft section - we had so much fun and bonding while we painted on easels, on a large bear sculpture, graffiti on glass, and even calligraphy! The center is generous and thoughtful to provide so many craft materials that we could stick or stamp on to create different art effects. Right beside this area was their DIY smoking bubbles area... pretty fun too! The toddlers' area on the ground floor right beside the cafe (thoughtful layout there) was rather basic and a bit boring --- just some scarf suction tubes, rocking horses, some books... The cafe has some healthy food options and good coffee, so parents, here's your little haven while your kids play. We recommend going on a weekday morning, and if you're foodies like us, you should definitely enjoy some Yong He Dou Jiang Wang (King of Soy Milk) which was just a few minutes walk away. We had a very satisfying breakfast before coming over as one of the first few customers! I believe it'll be crowded on weekends!

Sea of Flowers in Shinshe

Reviewed By agnestansc

We booked a cab to tour around Taichung. It costs NT3000 for a day from 9am to 6pm. Sea of Flowers was 1 out of our 5 destinations. It was superb hot and superb crowded with visitors. Initially our agenda includes 2 places of 花海, luckily our cabby advised us that 1 would be enough. There were fascinating exhibitions @Sea of Flowers: Dumbo was made up of mushrooms, pyramids made up of oranges, and dragon made up of dragon fruits.
