Like this stop on our private tour. A short hike up the trail leads you to probably the nicest falls in French Polynesia. Easy access. Great spot for some photos. Parking available and some fresh fruit vendors. Very high falls are very beautiful. Humid here in the summer.

James Norman Hall Home

From 1920 to 1951, this was the home of one of Tahiti's famous resident authors, James Norman Hall, the co-author of Mutiny on the Bounty, Pitcairn's Island and other tales of adventure in the South Pacific.

This was a very interesting house to visit. The guide at the house gave us a really good insight into the work of James Norman Hall. The collection of photos and his books were just amazing. We were very lucky as James Norman Halls granddaughter Kate was at the house when we visited, she gave us her personal recollections of her family times in Tahiti and shared some stories about her grandfather. There is a cafe with outside seating. Well worth a visit even if you’re not into books or films.

This large and bustling market hall offers local farm products, handicrafts, souvenirs and a variety of fish and food products.

We were initially disappointed to find the market was closed early however we managed to find time the next morning to visit and we’re glad we did. The market was bustling with locals selling everything from fresh fish to pearls, fragranced oils, carvings, flowers and everything in between. Definitely a good place to do your souvenir shopping and buy your pearls. Some vendors take card however definitely bring cash.

This grotto features a lake of black water that creates an optical illusion - the cave appears much smaller than it actually is.

We stopped off the side of the road for a fresh coconut here. We visited the grotto to watch the locals diving in. It was so very beautiful. Make sure you don't litter and bring cash for the gift shop. The chickens own the place so they're happy with any crumbs you feed them. I highly recommend this little rest stop. So completely peaceful.
