What to do and see in Suceava, Northeast Romania: The Best Multi-day Tours

May 16, 2022 Florencio Paulino

In northern Romania near the Ukrainian border and once the capital of Moldova, today Suceava is a city of just over 100,000. Though fairly industrial, the city does have some great historical attractions, like the 14th-century Princely Court fortress and several medieval churches. The Bucovina History Museum is also popular. Best of all, Suceava is the perfect jumping off point for exploring the famous painted monasteries of Bucovina, set amid the gorgeous countryside just outside of the city.

Due to the current covid situation, I had a private tour that day, which was awesome. Mathias was a great guide, has a lot of general Romanian knowledge along with historical. This made for great conversation on the way to and from the castles. I highly recommend the tour and would gladly do it again with friends and family in the future.

Gabriel was our guide and drove us on the day seeing both Bran and Peles castles. He was on time collecting us from our hotel and drove us safely to the castles. On the way we stopped off at a lovely restaurant that he recommended for lunch. He was a great guide, there with us all the time to answer any questions we had and take photos of our group. Even though we were over our time schedule with Gabriel, he even took us to the town where the Black Church was, so that we could see it. We had a great day, thank you Gabriel.

George is very knowledgeable and has obviously been to the places on this Transylvania trip. Customized our locations to maximize sights and touring for the time we had and where we wanted to see. Definitely a perfect trip that could have only used a couple tweaks. Watch windy roads if anyone gets car sick, let the driver know if there is anything specific your interested in and take lots of pictures, it will be a trip of a lifetime. Also, expect the guide to sometimes be rushed, we didn't expect to be kind of dropped off quite as much in some locations but we adapted to the area. Some of the best sights you will see and George is a very insightful and knowledgeable guide.
