Stockbridge is a town in Berkshire County in western Massachusetts, United States. It is part of the Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,947 at the 2010 census. A year-round resort area, Stockbridge is home to the Norman Rockwell Museum, the Austen Riggs Center (a noted psychiatric treatment center), and Chesterwood, home and studio of sculptor Daniel Chester French.

Walk in the door of this unassuming building and be blown away with the amazing and beautiful glass exhibit. The owner is a recognized artist with contacts with people in the field. I believe it is the only location on the east coast to see a Chihuly. Well worth a visit.

“Great music store” 5 of 5 bubbles When staying at The Red Lion Inn, I found this terrific music store practically next door. The person manning the store was knowledgeable about various artists, really helpful in finding a particular song I was looking for and generally liked what he was doing for a living. That is getting rare in the shopping experience. He was a former radio disc jockey, so he knew a lot about his subject. This little store has a great selection of vinyl and c.d.'s and the vinyl records I purchased are in perfect condition. In fact, the salesperson (I hesitate to call him that; he was more like a guide) was cleaning records as we talked. If you, as I do, enjoy music and are looking to add to your collection, this is actually a destination rather than a place to drop in while in town. It’s no wonder that Steven Spielberg and George Lucas are collectors of Rockwell. He’s more than a painter; he’s a storyteller. A passing glance is not enough to gain the richness of his creations. Notice the details in the paintings; there are clues that enrich the stories. The museum is is a mixture of original paintings, sketches, high-quality prints, photos, notes and brief videos. I’ll only hit the most striking parts to me. A guide pointed out some “hidden in plain view” details in his painting "Moving Day" that intrigued me. Look closely. You’ll see three different types of baseball gloves held by the children with Rockwell hinting they might someday be on the same team. The children are perhaps a bit uncertain as the racial lines come down. The black girl holds a white cat; the white kids have a black dog. It’s only the animals who seem to have a problem with each other. Another revelation was the painter’s friendship with noted psychotherapist Erik Eriksen (the man who introduced the term “identity crisis.”) It’s suggested that Eriksen affirmed Rockwell’s recurring theme of tolerance. In addition to the museum, a short walk takes you to his studio which was formerly in downtown Stockbridge. Here again, a wonderful guide told fascinating stories that led to a greater appreciation of his work. The view from the light-filled studio is stunning.

Berkshire Theatre Group was created in 2010 by the merger of two of Berkshire County's oldest cultural organizations, Berkshire Theatre Festival founded in 1928 in Stockbridge and The Colonial Theatre built in 1903 in Pittsfield. One of the largest and most exciting arts organizations in the area, BTG oversees the development, production and presentation of theatre, music and the performing arts on multiple stages.

The Berkshire Theatre has been around for many years on its main campus in Stockbridge Ma, I few years ago they expanded productions to include the Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield Ma , a 20 min ride north. To avoid the problem of an earlier reviewer make sure you check which theatre your production is in. The main stage and smaller Unicorn Theatre in Stockbridge, have ample free parking. Again though tell the parkers which production you are seeing. We were directed to the wrong lot last night, and while mildly inconvenient could have been avoided. If better instructions had been given. The productions and casting are first rate with Broadway caliber performers They do a variety of old favorites (both plays and musicals) and new works. The theaters are small so most seats are very good. The largest theatre does have a balcony. You can buy wine and beer and snacks before the show.

I had never done yoga prior to my visit to Kripalu. A friend had recommended I go several years back but I wasn't sure it was for me. I was at a low point and decided to sign up for their program, Kripalu Approach to Natural Weight. The experience was amazing. The course was extraordinary bringing together a physician, dietitian and coach. The content and structure were excellent. This is not a weight loss class- although I lost 7 lbs there. What I learned and took with me will be sustainable for a lifetime, not a few months. We had a cooking g de o that was fun and informative. The program included some physical activity as part of the coursework, but you also had free access to all of the yoga classes and other offerings.I thought yoga dance sounded nuts - it was a blast. You could gain 20 lbs in a week there if you don't watch it - the food is phenomenal. Mostly vegetarian but plenty of animals l proteins as well. I stayed in the Annex. Some have complained about these rooms. The beds are a bit firm but perfect for me. One night was a kind of hot but the rest very comfortable. The tub was deep and great for a long soak. My only complaint about the rooms were the pillows - I like mine to be much h softer. Some may not like the lighting in the rooms. Keep in mind that the Annex rooms are intended to be lit by natural light. There are lamps. You wont be in there much so go to sleep with the sun! All This said, the best part of my stay at Kripalu were the friendships I formed. The 9 beautiful people in my class, plus the instructors, will be in my life forever. I am changed from this experience and hope to go back again.
