Great place for Photographers, and the Visitor Center is a great place to visit!

As with most of the drainage trails in the Bitterroots it's a steady but generally moderate uphill trek in a mountain canyon. the farther up you go you'll be treated to some stunning views of the mountains.

This is a sweet and beautiful mission with a delightful tour that includes the priest's (Father Ravioli) home and his pharmacy/clinic. The Jesuits ('black robes' ) were actually invited here by the local Indians who were persuaded to do so by the Iroquois whose experience with them in Canada had been very positive. A wee bit of unusual history - well worth a stop.

Privately owned and operated this brewery puts out some great beers. Eric, the owner, has a constant oversight of what is going on, and hires some great brewmasters and offers a variety of seasonal beers. One of my favorites is the Porter, and the ladies prefer...the Blonde. Keep in mind, limited hours....due to the 'Brewery' title. Only snacks served, but you can BYOF, bring your own food!

St. Mary's Peak is located roughly 3 miles West of Stevensville. It is a 30 minute drive to the parking lot off of St. Mary's Road off of Montana Highway 93. The road is well maintained during the Summer, however, Spring provides some rough ruts in the road so NO small cars please.
Once to the parking lot, it is anywhere from an hour and a half to a two and a half hour climb, depending on your endurance. Once to the summit the views are incredible, in ALL directions! West in to Idaho, North to Missoula, South through the Bitterroot, and East in to the Sapphires!
Take water and a sack lunch and enjoy the Fire lookout Ranger Station at the top. "Manned" during the Summer. Not an easy hike for beginners....

Our group of 4 best friends (late 30's - 40's) went on a dream trip to Missoula in late September to fly fish the legendary rivers of Montana. We decided to work with Bryce and TruMontana as our outfitter and couldn't have been more happy with our day on the Bitterroot River.
Since our launch point was in Stevensville, and our vacation rental house was in Lolo, we didn't have a super early start (which was nice, given the late night of libations around the fire pit the previous evening). Bryce and Josh picked us up at our house, made a stop for snacks/supplies and got out on the river in short order. We were very new to fly fishing and the guides took their time to tell us about the day ahead (conditions, recent fish report, etc.). The moment we shoved our drift boats into the water though, we were fishing.
In spite of our many rookie mistakes like getting snagged on logs or crossing lines, the guides had an incredible sense of humor and were very responsive to our needs. Great coaching on casting form and attention to detail with the ideal flies for each section of the river (and time of day). They were very laid back - you could tell they truly loved their jobs, and loved helping people have fun.
We anchored our boats in a nice shady spot for lunch and they provided a spread of bread/meats/cheese so we could build whatever sandwiches we wanted. Perfect lunch for a day on the river. Also, the coolers on our boats were fully stocked with ice cold bottled water and sodas so we were never thirsty. Alcohol was BYOB and we enjoyed a few cold ones that day for sure.
By the time we were off the water, around 4pm, every single one of us had caught multiple fish (100% catch & release). Some were bigger than others, but each one was a thrill to seek out, hook, and reel in. We felt so privileged to spend this day together in such an amazing environment - and can't recommend the guys at TruMontana more emphatically.

My first time to quaff organic beer----I love it! The Ambitious Lager is sooooo smooth, just unbelievable. Hubby had Bodacious Bock and thought it was delicious. This brewery is unusual in that it is green, with maybe 24" thick walls for energy efficiency. Although no food is served here, you can bring your own snacks to enjoy. Try stopping by and take home a growler. You'll love the friendliness!

This place is absolutely amazing! It's a very large historic building with multiple rooms full of vintage items, antiques, and collectibles. There is definitely something for everyone inside! It is in a great location...close to downtown Stevensville, the lee Metcalf refuge, and outdoor recreation hot spots. Don't miss it and make sure you have plenty of time to absorb it all. I am looking forward to stopping in on my next visit to Stevensville.

A small state park often overlooked by visitors and locals alike. From the road it looks like part of a local ranch, but it is where Montana began, and should be on everyone's must see list if you are visiting the Bitterroot valley. The barracks have a ton of information about early Montana history and the establishment of St Mary's Mission and Fort Owen. Many of Montana's "firsts" happened right there at that little location. An hour is enough time to visit the fort and it is time well spent.
