June 20, 2021 Marlin Saiz

Ecotourism is alive and kicking on St. John. There's more than enough to do on land, from watching for wildlife in the national park to hiking miles of trails or strolling sandy white beaches. Hit the water for amazing snorkeling, swimming, even underwater photography—of course. This is the Caribbean, after all.

Great place to get spices, hot sauces and other local items. I love Blind Betty’s sauce, among others and the prices here are the best. Will order from their online shop when home and run out of the supply I bought on vacation.

Take the gorgeous drive to the East End ( via route 10) from Coral Bay and find something magical to take home with you - a hand-painted dress, beach bag, sign, banner or something else entirely. Immerse yourself even more in the Sloop Jones world of color by taking a Shirt of Art workshop, where you can make your own piece of wearable art to take St. John with you wherever you go. Elaine is an incredible person and a wonderful artist. Plus her dog's great too! A great place to get local art. I loved all her pieces and purchased several prints and a calendar at very reasonable prices (I spent under $50 total). I recommend walking by on an afternoon to meet her and see some art. Bring a cooler and snorkel gear and go to the beach right in front of her place after! Also, ask about Wednesday nights because she will have a party! Doesn't matter if you're a visitor, if you're nice Elaine treats you like family. 15 min walk from Cruz Bay, highly recommend for a local experience in St. Johns!

We rented a kayak from Beach Bum and were able to explore parts of the island that we wouldn't have been able to see otherwise. The owner was very helpful and friendly. He helped us secure the kayak to our Jeep and in a few short minutes we were off. Also the price for the rental was very reasonable. I highly recommend doing this on your next trip!
