Hamilton Pool Preserve

We went on a weekday in winter which was great because there was nobody there. Obviously too cold to swim though. I was a little annoyed that even though the river trail was closed we were still charged full price. Thankfully when we asked what else there was to do we were informed of raimer ranch just down the road that had hiking that our pass would cover.

McReynolds Winery

Reviewed By afreebing - Austin, Texas

Guess you have to love "uniqueness" if you want to experience this particular vineyard's small wine tasting room. It's the "most funky" one we've recently encountered along the Texas Hill Country Wine Trail, and we've toured 11 local vineyards, so far. Driving into this vineyard's grounds via our "Heart of Texas Wine Tours" driver (Annie) and being greeted by their little, nervous, barking mongrel dog in the parking lot, we then 'roused' the 2 'senior' proprietors from their homesite, and entered its wine merchandise-laden tasting room. The rustic, merchandise-crowded, inside decor with its claustrophobically-small wine tasting reception table, almost "turned me off" to the wine tastings... I think their wines should be the primary focus of the tasting room... Are the owners trying to pursue a different winery “style” in terms of their business marketing strategies? Our tour guide mentioned that she had only included this particular winery because it was in the area of where we wanted to tour, due to its proximity to Dripping Springs where we had to drop off a family member, who had to catch an afternoon Bergstrom International Airport flight. My companions, however, found the male senior proprietor to be entertaining with his stories about Russia and how the couple met (2nd marriage), and his wife was informative about their winery's history, rise to success, and subsequently, the popular production of their wines. At the wines' lecture's conclusion, six free clear-glass wine glasses with the McReynolds' logo were included in our large group's tasting fee. In our group of 10, our Chicago guest excitedly "claimed" them as she didn't have an apartment set of her own, and she'd never visited Texas before. Wonderful memento for her!

The drive to Westcave was so beautiful. The grounds are very enjoyable with vineyards you can walk through. Nice sitting are outside weather permitting. The wines were very good, bought a bottle of the Estate Vermentino (grapes only from their vineyard) and the Sweet red, both very tasty. Very knowledgeable staff.

We reserved Sail Austin Charters for my 50th birthday celebration. We could not have asked for a more beautiful day to sail Lake Travis! There were 11 of us on the boat and we had plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the water. Captain Tim was very safety conscientious and communicated clearly the boat rules which made all of us feel very safe and secure! He had great play lists and was very accommodating for the food and drinks we brought on board. We are definitely doing this again.

About 45 minutes outside of Austin is Spicewood which is where Krause Springs is located. This spring is fabulous - there is an actual swimming pool if you dont want to do down to the natural pool. The natural springs are awesome - water is clear and yes it gets crowded but it is spectacular. Water temps are in the high sixties super refreshing on hot days. There is a rope swing and a place to jump off rocks (careful water is only about 4 -5 feet deep) but a 20 foot jump into muddy water that is 5 feet is totally fun.
