I've visited Denmark many many times over the years from the UK and thought I knew the country pretty well until I visited Vesterhavegaarden and discovered this extraordinary hidden vineyard producing some of of the best wines, cognacs and calvados I've ever sampled anywhere in the world! Easily accessible from Copenhagen, it's worth going down there for the views and landscapes alone but once the host and self-taught wine producer Jesper Rye starts his tour, his boundless enthusiasm and detailed knowledge of wine pours out and you will leave there with an infinitely better knowledge of wine and this beautiful local area than when you arrived. The tour includes informative sampling and the wonderful hospitality of the whole family is free! I can't recommend this attraction enough.

An absolutely fantastic beautiful nature, good hiking conditions, as well as the opportunity to get down to the water's edge of the cliffs. Remember a little warmer clothes if you come outside the tourist season.

We went here on a guided tour and had a super interesting and very educational visit to the frontlinie defense of NATO, located at Stevns in Denmark. The tour of the underground fortress was the highlight, and the guide introduced us to the facts and a handful of good stories. Definitively worth recommending!

Stevns Klint

The cliff is a UNESCO World Heritage site and represents a dramatic chapter in the history of the earth. A thin layer of fish clay tells the story of how more than half of all animals and plant life became extinct as an asteroid struck earth 66 million years ago. Take the bike or car to Stevns Klint and explore the unique nature while on a refreshing hike. Walk along the beach and enjoy the sight of the cliff which towers 40 meters above sea level. At the top of cliff, Højerup Old Church hangs almost falling into the sea. From here you have a great view of the cliff and sea. Take the stairs to the top of Stevns Lighthouse and enjoy the panoramic view all the way to Sweden. Explore the underground tunnels deep within the Museum Stevnsfort, which during the Cold War served as a military facility keeping an eye on the Soviet Union. There are guided tours everyday from 1 june to 1 September at the Church. It costs 40 DKK to join.

Rosnaes Fyr

Reviewed By lenemike - Roskilde, Denmark

There's an excellent 5 kilometre walk around the glacial moraines of the Røsnæs peninsular from the nature centre to the lighthouse. It takes a couple of hours, along the stony beaches, past woodlands, across some fields and around small lakes. At the lighthouse there's a little café, but it was closed due to the Covid-19 outbreak. From the viewpoints you can see Samsø, northern Funen and Sejerø. The sky meets the sea with ships sliding past on their way through the Great Belt. An idyllic spot!

This area is already beautiful but I cannot recommend this GeoCenter enough. It is a charming boutique and museum with a great cafe with reasonable prices. I highly recommend getting a tour by Niels. Every museum in the world should have a Niels. He was so passionate and engaging and made all of us excited and interested in the geological history of Denmark, chalk and limestone. This center is also great for kids which was a lovely surprise. I would highly recommend making a day, seeing Møns Klint, having lunch, explore the museum, and then buying some local honey or souvenirs to take home. They even have ziplining and snorkeling! I am looking forward to going back for the fall colors.

Lejre Land of Legends (Sagnlandet Lejre) is an atmospheric and exciting tourist attraction for the whole family. 10.000 years of Danish history brought to life. We came here during the summer (peak season) with our 8 year old son, who is very active and likes to touch everything. So this living history museum was perfect for him! The volunteer families at the homesteads were all very helpful, I think it helped that we were there during the times that they were supposed to officially engage with the public. We tasted food from different eras, explored houses, used an axe and stone age tools, paddled in a dugout canoe...my son shot a bow & arrow, engaged in a mock archaeological "dig" and attended Viking battle training. Access from Copenhagen took a bit of planning, but there was an hourly bus that ran from the train station in Lejre to the destination, and the trains from lejre to Copenhagen run every 30 minutes.
