What to do and see in Sonoma, California (CA): The Best Things to do Good for Kids

May 2, 2022 Kaleigh Reichenbach

In Sonoma, you can go wine-tasting… or cheese-tasting… or olive oil-tasting… or just let the chefs of the area’s renowned restaurants put everything together for you. Then burn off some of that good food and wine by hiking or biking through redwood forests.

Sonoma Coast State Beach

A state park and beach recommended for fishing, walking and picnicking.

Reviewed By pfefmeister - San Francisco, United States

The stretch from Bodega Bay to Jenner is spectacular, as the road hugs the coastline, highlighted by sea stacks, coves, and endless vistas. Plenty of pull outs for beach stops, with many outfitted with picnic tables to relax and watch the ocean. Take your pick of the beaches, and spend the day in one of the most beautiful places on earth. And, if you are lucky, you could catch a whale or two in season. Just a great place.

Sebastiani Theatre

Reviewed By 14hannon - Sonoma, United States

Completed in 1934, the theater, rocking an Italian Renaissance style, was designed by famous architect James W. Reid, who also designed the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego. Movies and other events are still presented here. For its day, it offered the innovation of air conditioning. To my taste, this is one of the most interesting buildings on the Plaza. The never blinking Trixe seems to offer tickets from the classic ticket booth at the entrance 24/7. Definitely worth a walk by, plan to check out the inside for a show if you get a chance.

California Missions Museum at Cline Cellars

Reviewed By TomHAntioch_CA - Vallejo, United States

I'll admit it, I'm a California History buff and have been since my first CA history classes in grade school decades ago. I always visit the missions if I am stopping in my travels in CA and one is nearby. We had been to Cline Cellars several times before I realized they had this museum there. I really didn't expect much but was pleasantly surprised to find great models and fantastic written information following the steps of the padres as the missions were founded and moved north. If you have an interest in mission history; if you are in the area, stop by and take some time to walk the tour inside this small museum. And please, drop a few lire in the donation box so that they can keep this great piece of California history going.

We didn't have much time here, but you could spend a while meandering about - especially after visits to the area wineries. Would love to return with more time. Really pretty place with no shortage of history lesson.
