My girlfriend and I just took our first class at Shiso Kitchen, and we can't wait to go back. Jess is incredibly knowledgeable - she gave us tons of great tips throughout the class, and was willing to answer any questions we had around ingredients, styles, and personal preferences. We learned a lot, had a ton of fun, and the food was delicious.

I just returned from the 14 day grand tour (plus 5 day extension) and I can't stop talking about the amazing experience. Addi, group mentor and my new Moroccan family is an incredible ambassador to the country and culture. His knowledge of the history and culture, not to mention where to stay, dine, shop and tour were all exceptional. I have been on several academic lead studies abroad and this tour was comparable in terms of the people we met and deep experiences with the culture. Jane

This was my first Thai massage experience, and I was very satisfied. We called a couple days in advance to make a reservation for couple massage. When we arrived, we were greeted immediately. The front space is big, clean and has green tea and water. We filled out papers asking about claint intake any medical conditions, the preferred pressure (light, medium, strong), and any problem areas for the masseuse to focus on. The experience itself is very well done. The room is divided into individual cubicles and is dimly lit with light music playing. You change into a loose shirt and pants that are provided and lie face down on a massage table. I got the 90 minute massage. It was a great experience. My masseuse worked out all of the tension in my shoulders, back, and legs, and at the end even did some stretching exercises that helped loosen up some muscle groups. I would definitely come back here next time.

Davis Square

Anyone who misses the old Harvard Square (before the big chains took over) will appreciate Davis Sq in Somerville. There are places to sit and listen to the frequent live performers, and many independent restaurants, coffee shops, etc. Also a few chains like Starbucks. Some of my go-to places are: Mikes for a low-cost meal, Diesel Cafe for coffee, Mr. Crepe for delicious crepes, Out of the Blue for excellent seafood and the Burren for live music. Just outside the square I like Orleans restaurant, Painted Burro for upscale Mexican, Tenoch for inexpensive Mexican and Posto for upscale Italian including great pizza. These are just the tip of the iceberg. There are Asian noodle shops, more Mexican and pizza places, a classic diner, bakeries, clothing stores, singles bars, etc.

Somerville Theatre

Reviewed By Cherry_Wonderdog

What helped make last night’s Julia Jacklin concert so successful was the venue, itself, Somerville Theater. There’s a lot of history here, with the old architecture and wood carvings, grand dome above the stage, and attractive ceiling designs. It’s a nice and cozy spot to hear an intimate concert. Yes, I saw Dixie Dregs here several years ago and wouldn’t exactly call that music intimate, but it was a lot better than at a monstrous impersonal amphitheater like the Wang. Seating in the orchestra was surprisingly comfortable and appropriate for all heights. Unlike Cary Hall in Lexington where the orchestra section is completely flat, Somerville Theater has an incremental slope so that those in front of you are a few inches shorter than normal. Sure, it’s not stadium seating, but my view was not obstructed by any means, and I’m no Wilt Chamberlain. Last time I saw the aforementioned progressive rock ensemble, seating up in the balcony afforded an attractive top-down view of all the musicians that may be even better if there are height concerns. The other aspect about Somerville Theater that I liked was its amenities. A variety of draft beers and related drinks were available for a reasonable $8, and there were comfortable wrap-around sofas on the upper level where groups could congregate during intermission. In addition, the box office sold tickets directly to those who wanted to avoid Ticketmaster fees, and an impressive collection of better seats became available to the general public about an hour before showtime. I hope to return to Somerville Theater soon. It’s a great place that caters to lesser known musical artists who can perform at a price far more commensurate with limited economic means of the captive college student clientele in the neighborhood. Yet those in the audience made for a concert experience unlike the concert scene downtown. There was a sense of warmth, vivaciousness, and inquisitive youth that welcomed the artists, yearned to understand them more intimately, and appreciated their talents without snobbism. I walked away refreshed and awaken to the possibilities of a new musical hotspot.
