What to do and see in SoMa, California (CA): The Best Things to do

November 15, 2021 Jana Sager

Every neighborhood in San Francisco has its own personality, from the hippie chic of the Upper Haight to the hipster grit of the Mission. The Marina district boasts trendy bistros and postcard-perfect views of the Golden Gate Bridge, while Noe Valley offers quaint and quiet boutiques. Wave hello to the sea lions at Pier 39, and sample local cheese and charcuterie at the Ferry Building. Sit in on a yoga session in Dolores Park or marvel at the Dutch Windmill across from Ocean Beach.

Great place for kids with a lot of fun things to do (especially on a rainy day when we were there). Staff were very nice and clearly enjoyed what they were doing. Pretty reasonable for a few hours of entertainment as well. Note: cheap (and good) food options just across the street at the Metreon food plaza.

When I heard about the exhibition on the effervescent pop art of Andy Warhol at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art or SFMOMA, I turned to the pop art maestro for inspiration and motivation to keep on creating. . Warhol, like every great artist, questioned the status-quo, reflected on the societal conditions from different perspectives, remained open to new ideas and concepts and followed the work of contemporary artists. . Thank you SFMOMA for putting up such a brilliant and enriching exhibition. If you live in or are visiting the San Francisco Bay Area, I highly recommend visiting SFMOMA. Gift yourself a day brimmed with joy amidst art, ideas, and beauty. . To read more about this exhibition, please visit my blog - Travel Realizations

I come to a game at least once a year and I live in SoCal. This is one of the best parks in baseball, every seat is great, the food is amazing, garlic fries, tri-tip sandwiches, Ghirardelli Chocolate, Sierra Nevada and much more. Also if you have Clear you can get in the park fast.

San Francisco Flower Mart

SFFM is one of only five grower-owned wholesale flower market in the U.S. We are the one-stop floral source for Northern California. Over 50 individual vendors answer all your floral needs. Variety is what sets us apart from all others.

If you like flowers, treat yourself to this treasure. It's one of only a few large wholesale flower markets in the country, and is contained down the length and part of the width of a city block. It's spectacular! I've gone to this market for decades to buy flowers wholesale. Fortunately, part of the market stays open to the public after wholesale hours. There are many small businesses within the market, including local growers. Some specialize in particular flowers. Several supply houses offer the widest array of vases you may ever see. Packed carefully, you can put some in your carry-on luggage. I often travel with flowers, and never have a problem. If anything, the TSA employees compliment me on them. This market represents to me hard working entrepreneurs who care about their product. Flowers are a tough business, with I think not a big profit margin .. And now housing has encroached on this location. Very fortunately, a number of vendors have aligned and negotiated with the developer to retain the Flower Market on part of this site, even with housing and whatever else is planned. (They also fought hard for as smart of a development as they could get, and were successful in stopping an earlier, less conscious plan.) Bring cash .. don't add an unnecessary percentage to the vendors, many of whom may not take credit cards anyway. Enjoy the café and the snack bar at the corner too. This really is a special place that even a lot of locals have never seen. Because they aren't reading reviews like this on Trip Advisor!

Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial and Waterfall

I’m not sure why, but I can’t even talk about this monument without tearing up. For starters, it’s a beautiful location and the sound of the water flowing over the stone becomes more noticeable the closer you get. It draws you in to the area under the monument. I can get this far without tears but when I talk about the quote found underneath, my own waterworks start. Every time. "No, no, we are not satisfied and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream." I used to live in San Francisco and Yerba Buena gardens is my happy place. I find this memorial powerful and beautiful.
