Sittwe (Burmese: စစ်တွေမြို့; MLCTS: cac twe mrui.; Burmese pronunciation: [sɪʔtwè mjo̰]; formerly Akyab) is the capital of Rakhine State, Myanmar (Burma). Sittwe, pronounced site-tway in the Rakhine language, is located on an estuarial island created at the confluence of the Kaladan, Mayu, and Lay Mro rivers emptying into the Bay of Bengal. The city has 181,000 inhabitants (2006). It is the administrative seat of Sittwe Township and Sittwe District.

This is easily the biggest pagoda, called paya in Myanmar, and worth a visit. It's reminiscent of Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, but obviously much smaller. It's in an interesting part of town, there's an old mosque across the street that you can wander through. The mosque was destroyed during sectarian violence in 2012. I'm not advocating conflict tourism, but visiting this pagoda then going to the mosque gives you an idea of the complexities facing Myanmar.

If you like local markets, this is an interesting stop that is definitely unique on the market tour stops. Located along the water, this is the location that Rhakine state fish commerce begins. A large open air market that sells every kind of seafood you could possibly imagine. Some fresh, others that have been dried in the open air. It is very interesting seeing how trading takes place in this market as it is much different than others you may have seen. A short walk (maybe 100m) from the actual market is the docking and first place the fishermen move their stock. Better travelling earlier in the day you can walk down and see a bunch of fishermen bringing their catch a shore. The fishermen are not the ones selling the product in the market, rather once they reach the shoreline they offload baskets of catch and sell it to people on the land to be sold once again in the market just up the bank. The huge variety of fish they has is also interesting. I even saw one bring in some large blow fish.
If you like local markets I would recommend stopping here. Not that there is really much for you to buy, but it is interesting to see how these markets help their society roll smoothly.

The Market is same like other traditional market in south asia countries. The different is experience bargain the price and how you can see many people floods to the market everyday. The bargain techniques is showing money to seller how much money you need to pay? sometimes you have difficulty to differentiate between 100 and 200 kyatt due almost same.
The market is always full with people and highly recommended to go shop before 8 AM in the morning. The market is built by British and renovated/rehabilitated by Myanmar Government on 1956. Unfortunately, you can see little British architecture remained in the building.

This is a new attraction. It is a artificial penisula that judds out to Bay of Bengal. Thete is an old light house and a round shopping mall being built. I am not sure it is it will suceed but sittwe needs something. The locals seem to like it. Further down the beach, a port is being built with foreign money. The bay of bengal beacons.

We came here because the cultural museum was closed. A very run down building with the artifacts on the second floor. The building smells very moldy and the display cases were extremely dirty. The historical aspect of the pieces was just amazing and you would think that they would take better care of their collection.

Rehabilitation is just completed. The visitor can see symbol of rakhine state and a new light house. Many lighting in the area. Enjoy your visit!

You can see over hundred buddha statues in the temple. The temple is easy to find due to located close to entry sittwe town gate and bus station. I recommend to visit in the morning for taking picture.

Traveller need to hire boat reach the island. Consider the weather and sea waves. Dont force to go there if the climate not possible. Depart f4om sittwe town. Enjoy!

Questo tempio con annesso monastero è abbastanza recente, risale infatti al 1937.
Non ci sono particolari bellezze artistiche, solo un paio di quadri interessanti sulla vita e la morte e una ruota tantrica ben raffigurata.
