Sidon is of immense antiquity, but few remains of the ancient city have survived the ravages of time and man. Tyre is an ancient Phoenician city and the legendary birthplace of Europa and Dido (Elissa). Today it is the fourth largest city in Lebanon[4] and houses one of the nation's major ports. Maghdouché's most famous landmark is the tower of Our Lady of Mantara, which is a Marian shrine built (May 16, 1963), above the cave that is believed to have been the resting place of the Virgin Mary as she waited for Jesus while he preached in Sidon.

I thoroughly enjoyed the cooking classes I had with Robin. They were a lockdown birthday present from my Husband. Fantastic gift idea! Robin was very kind, pleasant, and extremely flexible! I am pregnant and cannot stay on my feet for very long. Robin was kind enough to split the cooking class in two separate lessons. The food was excellent and my husband and I had a lot of fun learning about Lebanon and the country's culinary delights! I highly recommend this experience!

We had an amazing, full day with Ali of Habibi Tours. Ali’s communication before our trip was excellent, and he picked us up right at our hotel near AUB. Our first stop was Jeita Grotto, where we walked through the first cavern, then took the fun boat ride through a second cavern. Next we continued to Batroun to walk around a bit and see the Phoenician wall followed by a quick stop at Chez Hilmi for the local lemonade. Ali’s company and conversation were wonderful throughout. We were a little ahead of schedule so Ali asked if we’d like to visit a beach, since the weather and sea were perfect. We said yes, and had a quick swim at Joining Beach. (Be sure to bring a suit and towel just in case!) Next stop was Byblos to see the ancient ruins and small souks. After a late lunch we headed back to Beirut. Everything about our tour was great. Spending the day with Ali was like visiting an old friend in a new place. Highly recommended!

Immerse yourself in history as you explore Tyre and Sidon, the two most important cities of Phoenicia. . Tyre was the great Phoenician city that reigned over the seas and founded prosperous colonies and it is one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world with many ancient sites, including the Tyre Hippodrome. Sidon was one of the most important Phoenician cities, and it may have been the oldest. Explore both cities in one day, hearing fascinating commentary about each spot without having to drive or plan an itinerary with a final stop at Maghdouché's most famous landmark, the tower of Our Lady of Mantara, which is a Marian shrine that is believed to have been the resting place of the Virgin Mary as she waited for Jesus while he preached in Sidon.

I recently visited Baalbek, Qadisha Valley, Sidon, Tyre, Chouf Mountains, Byblos, Batroun, Tripoli and enjoyed the tours organized by Lebanon Tours and Travels. The day tours are well designed to include essential sites, lunch with local flavors, and some with local guides. My driver/guide Albert is professional and friendly who has made the trip a memorable experience. The tour company is also helpful on many requests including taking you to a PCR test if needed. Lebanon is a beautiful country with amazing history and culture, and this tour company is highly recommended if you get to visit.

City sightseeing has taken its operations beyond the center of Beirut to weekend & weekday trips to other cities & places of interest in Lebanon. I never did the city tour so this was a new venture for me, but what a good choice! These trips have been so much fun that I have done three in the past two months. Personal commitments & weather allowing, I will do more. So far I been to Baalbek Roman ruins, Niha Fortress & Lake Bnachii. The bus drivers are very professional, negotiating village streets with ease, and happy to alter their route (ice cream stops seemed popular). The team are fabulous, good humoured and really work hard to make the day a pleasurable success. Coffee & biscuits were served at the first stop and lunch was provided at a restaurant between stops, all included in the price. The tour guide I had on all three trips was the same guy, Mado, a real character, who had a wealth of knowledge about the sites we visited, and spoke in English & Arabic, but he is also fluent in French, Spanish & Italian. The owner of the company, Vivien, who was present on all the trips, is also multi-lingual. In these times of Coronavirus the bus was perfectly suited to minimising risks of infection. The open top roof at the back of the bus reduced the risk of any spread by virtue of being in the open air, but hands were sprayed with antiseptic each time upon entering the bus, only one of every two seats was occupied and, apart from the odd photoshoot, masks were worn by all.
