St. Basil's Cathedral

Built by Ivan the Terrible in the 1550s, this intriguing Cathedral bordering Red Square consists of nine separate chapels, each capped with its own individually shaped and colored dome.

Reviewed By Lynn B - Gatineau, Canada

Moscow's iconic St Basil's Cathedral on Red Square is absolutely extraordinary! It is possibly the most unique looking attraction I've ever seen! I loved it!
St Basil's colorful and ornate exterior, with its remarkable onion domes, makes it a recognizable symbol of Moscow around the world. I found the interior also quite unique. It is made up of nine chapels. A maze of galleries takes you from chapel to chapel. The walls are painted in floral and geometric patterns. I recommend going inside!
St Basil's was built by Ivan the Terrible in the 16th century to commemorate a military victory. It became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1990.
Visiting St-Basil's had been on my bucket list for a long time. It was totally worth it!

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery

Reviewed By 85Alistair - Milton Keynes, United Kingdom

Thrilled to see that the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery already has a such a wealth of positive reviews; I totally concur and will consequently attempt to keep my own comments relatively brief.
A peaceful place offering some lovely views out across the surrounding countryside. Especially recommended for long-term Moscow dwellers needing a break from the teeming metropolis.
Though other reviewers have already mentioned this, I would be remiss if I omitted to say that as this is a working Russian Orthodox place of worship, some sort of head-scarf is recommended for women. As a man, I feel a somewhat awkward saying that, but it's definitely worth knowing.
My only regret about my own visit is that we didn't buy more pastries from the on-site bakery, the ones we did have were truly delicious. I would say take large bags with you and stock up, but I am not sure how the full-time residents of the monastery would feel about me advocating baked-goods-based gluttony!

This is a great museum to see if you're a car, aviation or military vehicle enthusiast.
The planes, tanks and other military hardware is all Soviet / Russian, while there are two sections of cars, one dedicated to classic Western cars, and another to Soviet vehicles.
In addition, there is a nice cafeteria where one can enjoy simple but tasty Russian food.

Red Square (Krasnaya ploshchad)

Red Square, once the site of executions and military parades, sits smack in the middle of Moscow, bounded on one side by the Kremlin walls and Lenin's tomb and on the other by GUM, the country's largest department store.

Reviewed By gentbrugg - Moscow

This is the main square of the country, the most replicated attraction in Russia. I sometimes wonder why that's so? My answer — besides the fact that it is very "postcard" one, it is also much more emblematic than something else. Not only in Russia, but also in the world. Here there is a certain complex, the amount of joining of the components which forms the final result - the cobblestones, the temple, the bridge behind it, the mausoleum, the place of execution of criminals, the GUM (Main Department store), the Historical Museum, the Kremlin. Is there, say, in Paris, Rome or Madrid something similar? Hardly. The arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel tower, the Colosseum, the Pantheon are all partly symbols known and recognizable, but not emblems of the whole country like Red square.

Moscow Metro

Riding the city's underground subway system is a sightseeing tour in itself with huge, vaulted, marble-columned stations - some with ornate mosaics and splendid stained glass - designed and decorated by famous Russian architects and sculptors.

Reviewed By Lynn B - Gatineau, Canada

Who knew the underground could be so beautiful? Moscow’s metro stations are ornately decorated and full of unique art and design. Much of it captures historical events. Some metro stations are quite luxurious with splendid halls and chandeliers. The metro stations are treasures in of themselves. The only unfortunate thing is we happened to visit during the rush hour and it got very busy and crowded. On the other hand, it gave us a more authentic experience.

I have been to the gallery for 5 or 6 times so far, and every single time I had something new to discover (a new pearl, if you please). It is worth your time and money, so please folks do not miss this brilliant opportunity and plunge into the Fine Art of Russia. I suggest visiting the main branch of the Gallery in Lavrushinsky lane (the second one at Krimsky Val has the Modern Art only)

Being a born Muscovite myself I really love visiting this place. It's like a combination of historical and natural place. The park itself is quite big & well-kept. The place is easily reachable by metro. Actually it is walking distance from the metro. In summer ponds are full of ducks so don't forget to grab some treats for them especially in autumn when it gets colder.
