Easter was late this year so the festival was going on during our visit. This beautiful little town was alive with excitement, festive costumes and beautiful horse-drawn carriages . In addition, Sevilla has many quaint eateries and tiny stores with lots of souvenirs. We thoroughly enjoyed our day exploring both the city and museums.

For those who do not know, Becquer is the beloved romantic 19th century poet of all Spaniards. The statue of the three girls dreaming of his poetry and persecuted by cupid is builtiful. The small glorieta (encircled garden) is also a nice place to sit down and rest a little. The glorieta is one of the must see spots in the Maria Luisa park. Do not miss it.

The hotel, Ferdinand III, is in the heart of the Santa Cruz area of the city & all the sights are close by. The reception staff spoke good English & were very helpful & polite ~ nothing was too much trouble. The bedroom was a good size with a large bed & good sized bathroom. The only thing missing was a full length mirror & the usual thing of there not being long enough hanging space in the wardrobe to accommodate long dresses ~ but that seems to be the problem with most hotels!!! Toiletries were replaced every day along with fresh towels. We had a balcony too! It wasn't very private but it was a welcome place too sit after a shower in the evening. The roof terrace was fabulous! There was a pool & an abundance of loungers. The views from up there were stunning! Below the pool terrace was another terrace with a few loungers, plus tables & chairs for having drinks at. There was a bar & in the evening the meals were served up on this terrace. We had one meal in the hotel & it was of a very high standard. There was a good selection of foods available in the morning for breakfast ~ something to suit all tastes. It was my husband's birthday whilst we were there & we came back from sightseeing one evening to find a bottle of cava in an ice bucket & 2 glasses waiting for us to drink. A lovely touch & thank you so much! If we return to Seville, which is a big possibility, then we would stay at Hotel Ferdinand III again! Thank you for making our holiday so enjoyable.

Plaza Nueva is a lovely public square with some greenery and space to sit and relax. Plenty of shops around. The area was built on what used to be land belonging to a convent (of San Fernando), which explains I suppose the big monument in the middle of the plaza. The Town Hall is also in this area. Worth strolling around and about. It's in the middle of the city.

The column is on a roundabout just outside Maria Luisa park and celebrates the fact Elcano completed the first circumnavigation of the world. This is not a well known fact as Magellan is usually associated/credited with this feat, even though he died before completion. The reasons are mainly political (Magellan = Portuguese/Elcano = Spanish) but on the 500th anniversary of the event (2019) both countries submitted a joint application to have this historical anomaly rectified.
