The beautiful breathtaking scenery, the endless slopes ( one La Longia 10.5 km long) and the lovely town makes this place the Mecca for ski lovers. No matter how many times you will be there , just the thought of it makes your body crave with expectation. If I will ever know that there is only one ski vacation left in my life- Val Gardena will be the place.

Passo Sella

Reviewed By A6996SEstevem - Miami, United States

Be sure to visit the Passo Sella for beautiful access to the outstandingly scenic Naturonda hike and the excellent Comici Hut. The Passo Sella is a short drive up a steep, twisting, and narrow mountain road from the village of Selva di Val Gardena in the Dolomites of Italy. From the top of the Pass, which sits at roughly 2,200 meters, inviting hikes radiate in different directions. A perennial favorite hike is the Naturonda that begins a short walk from the pass and ends at the not-to-be-missed Comici Hut, which may be the nicest rifugio, or mountain restaurant, in the Dolomites. The Comici hut offers delicious food and friendly service. If nature calls, its bathroom will astonish you. The Naturonda is a relatively easy loop hike that takes about two-hours to complete. A narrower and well-marked trail that begins in a maze-like rock garden takes you to the Comici Hut while a wider, path returns you to the parking lot at the Pass and your car. Though the Naturonda may lack difficulty and length for the serious hiker, it is an extraordinarily beautiful hike with spectacular, high alpine scenery. For the more adventurous, there are ways to prolong the pleasure of being in this magical area by extending the hike. Buon Viaggio.

We did this hike with 2 teenage boys (10 and 14) and it is exceptionally beautiful! it is quite easy if you are a moderately fit hiker (even if you are not so fit actually). Because we did this with the boys we hiked from Sella pass to Refugio Sasso Piatto, left out stuff, climbed Sasso Piato, stayed overnight and hiked the rest of the way the second day. I will say if you are not very fit, skip the mountain climb, it is not an easy hike. The tour around the sasso piato and lungo is beautiful and quite easy though.

This was our first time skiing in Italy. Our instructor, Claudio, was excellent - very experienced and able to teach us to ski better and make it enjoyable too. His English was great and he dealt with the different ability levels very well of my wife and me. The organisation of the lesson went smoothly too - highly recommended.

These so called “Coffin Lifts’ are a MUST experience if ever in the Valgardena, Passo Sella area in the Dolomites! The previous reviewers are spot on with their descriptions. These two person max, coffin-like pod lifts that take you to the top of Passo Sella are literally out of this world! Crazy!!!! What an adrenaline rush. Getting on and off is serious business as these small pods circle around, a door slides open and two guys at the bottom literally pick you up and shove you in! And you had better be quick and organized if two of you are jumping aboard. These babies don’t slow down for you. The ride to the top is not only an experience of a life time as the coffin lifts squeak and sway with the wind. There’s no sitting down and two people are in each other face with no where to move. The beauty that surrounds you is unbelievable!!! When you finally make it to the top, get ready, two guys are awaiting you to literally catch you as the door slides open for a brief moment and you jump out into their arms! Wowza!!!! If considering this area, you MUST GO and experience this!!!!!
