What to do and see in Sedona, Arizona (AZ): The Best Shopping

January 8, 2022 Kiesha Cripe

Sedona is a true oasis, a vacationer’s paradise in the middle of the Arizona desert. Here, you’ll find resorts and spas, canyons and red rock formations. Bell Rock and Oak Creek Canyon are great hiking spots, and the dramatic architecture of the Chapel of the Holy Cross is a religious experience itself. When the sun dips down below the horizon it introduces the best show in Sedona: the night sky.

Exposures International Gallery of Fine Art

Reviewed By 370brentn

We live in the Phoenix area and have visited Exposures for the past several years. It is always a wonderful experience and we have purchases several pieces of art from them. The variety of art/artists is great and ranges in price from comfortable purchases to high end collector values. They have done a superb job of picking out diverse artists and feature them in diverse selections of work in glass, mixed media, paintings and sculpture. The jewelry features in the gallery is also very unique and appealing. We have purchased a number of paintings/pieces from Exposures and the pricing is very good for such a nice gallery, especially being in Sedona. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and extremely helpful. They have never been overbearing or pushy, but are always available to answer questions and help with ideas for placement, display, combining artists, etc. We have dealt with Jennifer Garcia, who I believe is a manager, and cannot say enough good things about her. She seems to get a “sense” for your taste to the point that we seek her out for paintings, artists as well as framing suggestions. Very solid gallery with amazing work. Definitely worth a one time visit but even better if you can frequent and even attend some of their artist-driven shows.

Honshin Fine Art

Nicholas Kirsten-Honshin’s art and poetry are a reflection of his experience with ancient Eastern spiritual practices and the philosophies of Christianity, Tibetan Buddhism, Zen Buddhism, and ancient Mesoamerican cultures. His work is a mythic amalgamation of ancient healing practices and the present trends in spirituality, science, and nature, resulting in a true fusion of East and West. His art is an expression of his personal journey, a mythic amalgamation of ancient healing symbols, practices, and present trends in spirituality, science and nature. Profoundly influenced by the Northwest Mystic School, a legacy passed to him by his father Daiensai Kuden Bonseki Dojin and the other acclaimed artists of this period whose work he grew up surrounded by, Honshin sees art as a form of spiritual quest. Using painting, printmaking, sculpture, jewelry, and poetry as tools, Honshin’s intention is to communicate the unity of consciousness and life of all things in the universe.

We found some beautiful ceramic pieces and the original art was amazing. An all around wonderful gallery!

The wall art, sculptures and jewelry are all unique and beautifully displayed, and the friendly sales staff are very knowledgable about the artists they represent. Vue Gallery has an impressive kinetic wind sculpture garden out front. I wish I lived closer so I could visit more often! Tina H.

I finally had the opportunity to meet Stan after a few months of admiring his work online. He took the time to explain his photography which allows the viewer to better appreciate the image. Much more than a picture, each one of his pieces tells a complex story. He's a cool guy and his artististic character emanates from within. Needless to stay I purchased an item on site and will be ordering another in the next few days. There is a reason why we all gravitate to Sedona. Stan captures this landscape beautifully as well as many others. That in itself is a perfect reason to stop by his gallery. And then hey, stop by Javelina and enjoy a fresh margarita and fajitas!

Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village

A Sedona landmark since the 1970's, Tlaquepaque treats visitors and local residents to an exceptional collection of galleries, shops and dining establishments. Named after the picturesque Guadalajara, Tlaquepaque construction began in 1971 with the creation of the wall along the highway. Giant sycamores and stately cottonwoods dapple the light in the courtyards, encouraging the visitors to meander from one courtyard to the next. While meandering stop by and view our Chapel on property - and perhaps you might get a glimpse of a wedding and reception. Tlaquepaque hosts several community events throughout the year. Tlaquepaque is a place that visitors return to again and again - to look and wander, to sample and buy, to eat, drink and refresh body and soul. Visit us soon and discover the magic yourself!

First of all, it is pronounced T-La-Keh-Pah-Keh, which means "best of everything." Which is very appropriate. Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village is an enduring outdoor market featuring art galleries, craft shops, cobblestone paths and decorative arches. Located at 336 State Route l79 in Sedona, Arizona, on the banks of Oak Creek, it has been a Sedona landmark since the 1970s. Open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, it features over 50 specialty shops and art galleries and five restaurants. It is fashioned after a traditional Mexican village with vine covered stucco walls, wrought iron, stonework, patterned tiles, patios, courtyards, fountains, overhanging balconies, cobblestone walkways and arched entryways, even a chapel, designed as a place of serenity for meditation and contemplation. You've never seen a shopping mall like it. Among the most popular destinations are the chapel, the Rowe Fine Art Gallery, with a magnificent sycamore tree twisting skyward through the roof, and the El Rincon Restaurante Mexicano, a Sedona icon for over three decades. Even if you never learn how to pronounce the name properly, you won't forget your shopping experience at Tlaquepaque.

We like to go here for the variety of art. Not only are there professional artist, but even those that are just starting. Prices vary. This visit was timed with the Plein Air Festival. I am not a big fan of having to walk down the stairs to go from the continuous exihib space to where they had the festival arts (for my parents sake). But one can park below, if lucky to find a space. Love the art. My favorite. It is so challenging to find this kind of art, even in Sedona. We ended up buying a piece.
