What to do and see in Seattle, Washington (WA): The Best Walking Tours

May 4, 2022 Malia Yoakum

In Seattle you simply can’t skip the Central Public Library – a modern architectural marvel of glass grids, unusual shapes, and a “book spiral” that climbs four stories. Stroll over to Pike Place Market to visit the original Starbucks and play catch with a fishmonger. In the heart of the city lies Chihuly Garden and Glass, which will dazzle you with its colorful and delicate works. Glide to the top of the Space Needle for panoramic views of the surrounding mountain ranges and Puget Sound.

Chef Carolyn gave us the tour today, only her 9th day on the job. She did a great job. We started with a mocha and some chocolate and ended with an amazing chocolate chip cookie. Loved everything in between. Great historical information and loved the cooking/food knowledge from an actual chef.

Booked the VIP Ultimate Seattle Food Tour for 6 people on January 6th for March 18th. I was notified that our host was being briefed on March 3rd and I was contacted by March 4th. Details were exchanged and a proposed itinerary was received on March 15th. We paid $976 for this 4 hour tour and I was told that our "budget" for food for the 6 of us was $213. The itinerary included 3 stops where we were expected to order off the menu and share. Transportation between restaurants was not included. I asked our host what their recommendations were (why those particular restaurants were selected) and commented that making 3 reservations, being responsible for our own transportation, and ordering off the menu/sharing was something we could have just done on our own. On the morning of March 17th - ONE DAY BEFORE OUR TOUR - I received notification that our tour was canceled "due to COVID" (which isn't being honest, IMO). What horrible service.

I really faffed up and we were an HOUR late. Despite this Tim made it work. He is FASCINATING and very funny. I am really looking forward to doing another of his tours but in a different area. We had a tremendously fun evening and I strongly recommend Tim to anyone who has even a vague interest in beer. Also afterwards we had the option of hanging about with him and his lovely wife but we had to head home back to the dogs-which in hindsight we could have brought with us.

TOUR INCLUDES FIGUREHEAD BREWING, the FIDHERMEN'S TERMINAL AND ROOFTOP BREW COMPANY. On the south shore of Salmon Bay, beneath the Ballard Bridge, and north of the BSNF train yards is Seattle's historic Fishermen's Terminal and the home port for the North Pacific Fishing Fleet. Think of the Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch and you will know exactly what kind of intrepid fishermen sail from this port. Luckily for them, and for us, there are two great breweries on either side of the port, and we are going to taste six great beers at each. At each brewery our Cicerone certified Beer Guide will lead a guided tasting of six, 4-once beers, for a total of 12 different beers. TOUR INCLUDES REUBEN'S BREWS, STOUP BREWING, AND OBEC BREWING.  In the center of Ballard's Brewing District, these three breweries stand out. At each guided tasting we will learn about the different beer styles, what to look for when you are tasting beer, the history of beer, and the craft brewing renaissance in the Pacific Northwest. For example we'll learn how an obscure export ale for British soldiers was reborn in the Pacific Northwest to become the most popular craft beer style in North America or how a small Czech town gave its name to one of the world's most popular beer styles. Combine the best the Northwest has to offer in this all-inclusive full-day adventure: a beautiful hike in the National Park with big views of Mt. Rainier, an organic picnic lunch outside, and wine tastings at beloved wineries in the Yakima Valley! At the height of summer, Mount Rainier's flower-flanked trails provide the relaxation, fresh air, and peace that only comes with a walk in a quiet, wild place. By far the best purchase I made during my trip to Seattle! This guided tour exceeded my expectations. You get to see a lot of the park without worrying about any of the logistics. The food was yummy and vegetarian friendly (which was a nice surprise!). The tour guide was a fantastic story teller and receptive to the requests and wants of the group, tailoring the experience to us. What's also great is you actually get out to do mini hikes vs just driving to a scenic view, snapping a pic, and moving on. The snow shoeing was a bonus! 11 out of 10 would recommend for the nature lovers out there :)
