The Wetlands Institute

This nature center features exhibits on local marine life, along with activities like kayaking and dune walks.

Our group of five (including a 4 1/2 year old) visited the Wetlands on a cloudy day with rain expected. First we saw a short movie (which could be updated to include more recent information perhaps) as well as a brief introduction by a guide. She was very knowledgeable and explained everything so that it was easily understood. It turned out that she was also our guide for a tour of the salt marsh. It was fascinating to learn about the osprey, the terrapins, their mating habits and egg laying, the mud in the marsh, the grasses etc. There was a walkway that took us through the marsh as we learned. Our granddaughter said that she really liked learning "so much". We also visited the aquarium and felt the exhibits there were very well done. Another highlight was the fishing. The guide helped our granddaughter and other little ones cast a small net and pull in some little shrimps and crabs! She was able to see how these little creatures hid in the grasses and dirt and when caught would jump around in the water bucket! What a treat! Finally we browsed in the gift shop. It had an excellent collection of books for children that continued the learning process. The Wetlands Institute was the perfect place to go on a non-beach day!

It's a great course but you will wait on almost every hole. I played this past Friday and with a 2:10 tee time, we were forced to quit playing at 715 because of the dark. We were only able to finish 15 holes. It's a shame they double book so much, because they really do have a beautiful and difficult track. I emailed the director of golf to voice me displeasure, I'm still waiting for him to acknowledge the email.

If you have 6 hours to kill, and enjoy waiting, then this course if for you!

Sea Isle Parasail

Imagine soaring high above the Atlantic Ocean in a specially designed parachute while being towed behind a high tech speed boat. Our custom built winchboats are “state of the art”, utilizing a hydraulic launch and recovery system. This provides for easy take-off and landings directly from the flight deck of the boat. Each ride is under control for an effortless ocean thrill ride.

We told the kids if their report cards were good for the last semester, they would get to go parasailing.

With good grades, we had breakfast on Sunset Pier then walked the few steps to the parasailing. My daughter was nervous and my son was excited and they did a tandem flight. By the time it was done, they didn't want to leave.

They enjoyed the crew and said the flight was quiet and they could see everything. They saw dolphins from up high and thought they could see Wildwood.

Great experience, next time my wife and I go!

The crew was great and the boat was nice. Unfortunately, the day we went was very crowded and not many people caught fish. Might have moved the boat too much to find a better spot to find fish but that didn't leave much time for rods in the water. It takes about 45 minutes to get out and 45 to get back. So they need to make better use of the fishing time. Overall, it was a great boat trip and lots of family fun.

Avalon Fishing Charters

Full and Half Day Fishing Charters. We have small back bay boats and large offshore sportfishing boats. Trips are limited to maximum 6 persons by USCG regulation. Our half day trips are 4 hours in the back bay and 5 hours in the ocean. This is a great choice for the family and smaller children. We target flounder, blues, and sea bass. The action is typically pretty good, making for a fun outing for all. Offshore adventures for shark, tuna, marlin, and wahoo start at 10 hours, although most are 12-16 hours. Our most popular offshore trip is our 22 hour overnight canyon trip. Tuna fishing can be incredible off the NJ coast in the Summer months. From a short half day back bay trip for the kids to a full day canyon run for Tuna, Over Under Sportfishing is your choice here on 7 Mile Island.
