Mahabaleshwar Temple

Reviewed By MukulB_13 - Pune, India

This is a very old shiva temple in the kshetre mahableshwar area. A nice place to visit if you are staying for 2-3 days in mahableshwar. The history produced from wiki Mahabaleshwar Temple is built in 1215 AD as per historical records. This temple is built in Hemadpanti style. The temple houses Shiva's bed, damru and trishul which date back to approximately 300 years. It is believed that every morning, the bedsheet is found crumpled indicating Shiva's presence at night within the temple. Ramdasi Math: Beside Mahabaleshwar temple is Ramdasi Math which has a copy of Dasbodh. Samarth Ramdas himself had edited (corrected) this dasbodh copy

While travelling on Pune-Bangaluru highway, if you can spare 2 hours; this is a place worth visiting. Maharashtrian version of Rani-ki-Vav. Those interested in ancient water management systems & architecture must visit. Mandatory for those who are proud of Maratha history. Many unknown stories will unfold. Local guides are available. Worth taking services of them to encourage local tourism. A nominal fee of Rs.10/- per person is there. No eateries. But Sugarcane juice/soft drinks stalls available. Even if you are not a history enthusiast, make sure you hire a guide while visiting this fort. Listening entire enthralling story exactly where it all happened, will give you goosebumps for sure. One of the most amazing stories of Indian history which is full of thrills, drama, and courage. I can't describe the experience in words when I visited the fort for the first time and heard this story. Reading it in books and hearing it in the fort has a huge difference because you can visualize it in the fort.
