We did not pick Dorien Malaj as our guide in Albania; we were matched up by one of the travel industry’s many anonymous middle men—but the moment we actually met Dorien, we knew we had gotten lucky. He was quick to identify our particular interests and to adjust accordingly. Our focus in Albania was their “accursed mountains” in the north east. We expected that in getting from Dubrovnik to Albania, Montenegro would be little more than a “drive through”. However, Dorien took us on a stunning mountain route that included the two beautiful but very different towns of Kotor and Cetinje, which really put Montenegro on the map for us, an added bonus. Dorien was so well-informed and happy to share both the hard facts and the subtle cultural nuances we were observing. His interactions with local people were very interesting to observe, and his background in Psychology gave him an interesting perspective, greatly enhancing our experience. His personal interests were so varied and wide, and that made looking through his eyes very stimulating for us and made conversation very productive. There was no subject off limits—about either Albania or the US. Dorien has a nice sense of humor that seemed to match ours…so that we had lots of fun together, too. It was a very easy and open relationship.

It was amazing day just for 25 euros per person. Captain Spyros took us from Agios Gordios and drived us to Gouvia by his car telling nice stories about villages we passed. The boat was big and nice and Spyros was the best part of it. He was joking, singins, dancing, talking to everyone and making food. The food was very tasty, and free coffe, biscuits and free wine all the day. The three places we stopped were very nice especially this wild beahh near the lake.

Experience private, tailor-made tour with authentic local flavour. Saranda is a little town with a lovely horseshoe bay and a perfect climate, averaging around 290 sunny days a year. Ksamili, this hidden gem is located on the Albanian Riviera, and it sure is one of the best beach destinations in Europe. Even if you are not interested in archaeology, you will enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, the scent of eucalyptus and other trees among the ruins. History buff hubby and I booked a custom tour. Our guide was amazing. She stuck through us making long videos, hiking, long drives and rain. She was so interested in history and really helped with information for his history videos. We went to gjorkastra, Antigonea and the thermal baths all in one day. With my husband's love for history this probably needed two days. However our guide was always enthusiastic and a real trooper. The driver drove flawlessly though heavy rain and dark. Not to mention lunch/dinner at a local spot was fantastic. I'd highly recommend the guides are fun and professional. This is the second time we've used this company. First was a transfer from triana to sarande also great experience. Thank you so so much for your long hours and patience. Vanessa and Ray

It should be noted that the thermal springs are not hot springs. I was surprised when I felt the cool water. Also, the algae has made footing extremely slippery so be careful.
