La Iguana Chocolate

Organic Chocolate, Education & Experimentation When a third generation cacao farmer turns chocolate maker - the results are beautiful! About Us La Iguana Chocolate is a Costa Rican family owned and run, organic farm in the village of Mastatal. Located towards the Pacific Coast: 2.5 hours South-west of San Jose, roughly 1 hour inland from Parrita, 1.5 hours from Jaco or Manuel Antonio. Our family have been farming this land and growing cacao for three generations. We first opened our doors to visitors, volunteers and guests in 2004. We now offer school groups, students and guests the unique opportunity to learn about sustainable living, permaculture, natural building and chocolate processing in the stunning tropical rainforest. We offer chocolate tours and treehouse accommodation for those interested in seeing a less touristic side to Costa Rica. Like most great things in Costa Rica, we are at the end of some slightly bumpy roads, the views are stunning, however we do recommend a 4x4 in the rainy season. Tours Our hands-on educational chocolate tour is lead by one of the family on our farm. Over the course of roughly 2.5 hours, we will take you through every step of the chocolate making process from harvesting and tasting the fresh fruit through to making your own delicious chocolates. You will also have the opportunity to make a traditional Mayan style hot chocolate and sample some freshly baked chocolate brownies. Tours are available from Monday - Saturday. Please book your tour in advance via email. We do our best to be flexible with days and times to suit your plans, however we are a small fully operational farm, run by a team of 4, and appreciate at least 2 days notice to organise our schedule. Find Us Google Maps or Waze will reliably help you to navigate to the farm, simply search for La Iguana Chocolate. For more information about anything we do at La Iguana, please see our website or find us on Facebook, Instagram, Google or contact us directly.
