Anthony Chabot Regional Park

Reviewed By Susan P - Alameda, California

I've lived in the EB since 1990, and love to camp. Why haven't I stayed here before? Who knows, but I'm so glad a friend set up a weekend away for some friends here. This is a top notch campground, well run, mellow, with great facilities and nice hiking trails right out your door. One blessing is that they do a great job of keeping poison oak out of the campground area - for those of us severely allergic, this means we can relax a bit. Staff is great, bathrooms clean, free hot showers, campsites nice and spread out (compared to many NorCal campgrounds).

Be aware that it is an urban camping experience. You will hear planes taking off, and BART trains, and other urban noises. But up high in the eucalyptus grove, early in the morning, you'll also hear owls and coyotes. Enjoy.

Oakland Museum of California

The Oakland Museum of California provides unique collections, exhibitions and educational opportunities designed to generate a broader and deeper understanding of and interest in California's environment, history, art and people. Museum programs are responsive, accessible and meaningful to the public, including school children, teachers, scholars, the immediate Oakland community, and an increasingly diverse California population.

I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to Oakland Museum on 10/30 during a birthday trip to the Bay area. We checked out the Black Panther exhibit, which was informative and insightful. I particularly enjoyed the fact that the exhibit was curated in a way that was inclusive and demonstrated a bit of Oakland pride.

The exhibit was interactive and thought provoking -- featuring multi-media pieces that gave you a in-depth, behind-the-scenes view into the Black Panther movement. There were several opportunities throughout the exhibit for the view to express their feelings and interact with the artwork and environment.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would visit this museum again for other exhibits whenever I'm in the area.

This is a Castro Valley icon... Been here for-e-ver... What I like is how friendly the staff is, and the fact that the place is pretty well kept (considering it's actual age). They have some arcade games inside, but the two 18 hole courses are the fun draw for the family. They have family packages that can save you a couple bucks, as well as a discount in the evenings. Good fun...

Drake's Brewing Company

Reviewed By Jeru02

Drake's Brewing in San Leandro is not a restuarant like their Oakland location, it's a brewery with a food truck and snacks.

They have great indoor and outdoor seating options, and their staff is always super friendly. Parking can be a bit difficult on busy days/weekends.
